19th April, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Our Disabled & Over 60's match fished at Daresbury Laboratories this week saw some improvements in weights albeit with the addition of bonus fish for the first two anglers. The winner for the second consecutive week was George Barber had his weight massively improved by a bream of 3.5lbs to which he added just over a pound of small fish for a total of 4-10-8. He fished his usual pole and bread punch method. Second placed George Hollis had a proper specimen that members of the Anguilla Club would have given their high teeth for in the shape of a cracking eel of 3lbs that swelled his catch to 3-4-4. There were good numbers of small roach in some pegs which is great for the future of the canal as large numbers of fish have been wiped out this winter by cormorant predation.

Reports of a double figure bream from the large lake at our Sandiway fisheries. Despite apparently the faster growth rate of carp on the smaller 17.5acre water it does not apply to the bream or tench evidenced by the much larger specimens reported from its 53acre neighbour that go into double figures.

The middle reservoir at Worthington is producing some great sport with roach and bream to groundbait feeder tactics. A few carp also showing but don't forget the small reservoir is closed to angling until the 16th June.

Statham Pool is becoming more popular than ever and is producing some decent roach catches along with the occasional small carp. Worth a visit.

Recent Angling Trust news via email reported that an angler had been reported for the consideration of prosecution for fishing the River Mersey during the coarse fish closed season. Despite me not agreeing with the ninety day closure it is the law and must be obeyed. Our bailiffs are carrying out regular patrols and anyone caught will be reported.

Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscription and night permit renewals, and any queries. Your catch reports are always welcome, email me details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or ring me on 01928 716238.
