3rd November 2015 Warrington Anglers Guardian Notes

3rd November, 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Many thanks to our members who turned out to Offa's Dyke to put the finishing touches to the fence and electric otter deterrent to protect our fish stocks. Without these guys who led what was indeed a brand new project for Warrington Anglers association from start to finish. A steep learning curve maybe but a job well done that without a doubt we will be drawing on that knowledge in the future for other fisheries.

Similarly thanks to the members who turned up at Grey Mist Mere where an improved design weed rake saw our working party volunteers remove even more weed than previously. But getting the weed to the bank is only the start of a lot of hard work to cart it well away from the water's edge. So if you fancy a proper workout watch out for the next working party date.

Jimmy Byrnes walked away with our Saturday event for the second successive week when once again he targeted the bream fishing maggot and groundbait feeder tactics. He ended up with two 5lbs bream with the rest of his winning weight of 13-8-0 made up of roach. Jim Gannon fished the same method and managed to tempt one 5lbs bream plus a decent net of roach for 9-8-0. As these roach pack on weight I reckon that there will be more winning catches of silver fish before too long.

No sooner were my thoughts in type and bingo, it happened a joint first consisting of all roach taken on the pole and my favourite method the stick float. The winning pair were match organiser Ray Boden fishing his preferred method and Dave Hill who trotted down using stick float and maggot for 8-4-0. Alan Birchall came in third place with 7-14-0.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match this week was fished on the Trent & Mersey Canal and saw seasoned matchman Jimmy Byrne clock up his second win and featuring in the prize money in the previous three matches. Jimmy fished the pole and caster and maggot to catch roach, skimmers, and perch for 5-14-13. Runner-up was Graham Belton with 4-13-0. Eighteen fished with most anglers ending the match with 2lbs plus.
