10th November 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

10th November, 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Many thanks to all our members who turned out at such short notice to help our annual stocking of carp into Grey Mist Mere, Moore Quarry, and Sandiway Lakes. There were a few faces that I didn't know but I am sure that they went away suitably impressed by the quality of the V S Fisheries carp.

Our first visit was to Grey Mist Mere where we introduced four C6 fish averaging 20lbs plus fifteen C4's averaging 8.7lbs with a few 9 and 10pounders. All were mirrors.

Next was Moore Quarry where the members were well pleased with six C6's averaging just under 21lbs with the best a common weighing exactly 22lbs. The consensus was to stock only three C4's but the mistake was allowing the guys to choose the fish as we ended up with ten stunning mirrors and one common. It was just like watching kids in a sweet shop, but brilliant to witness and the banter was rife.

The final destination was Sandiway lakes where we released nine C6 fish averaging 19.5lbs with the largest 21-10-0 into the large lake. The small lake where the fish are simply packing on weight received twenty nine C4's that included two commons and one of the progeny of the famous Colnemere black mirror which reached over 50lbs before its death. We have a further twenty of these fish on order. For the record a C4 fish is four summers old and a C6 six. They are the fastest growers and are sorted into sizes annually ultimately being the best of the best of the best etc.

Tim Poultner has certainly kicked off his piking with a good start on the Bridgewater Canal where on his first visit last week he had two fish but on Friday on a different part of the canal he ended up with four on the mat with the same number lost. He only called it a day when he ran out of joey mackerel. All fish were caught on the towpath edge.

Jimmy Byrnes won our Saturday Mersey event for now the third successive week, again he targeted bream using maggot and groundbait feeder tactics. He weighed in three bream to 6lbs along with roach and perch for 14-4-0.  Jim Gannon fished the same method and made it two seconds in as many weeks with 9-15-0.

Stu Hardman had a Sunday match that he will never forget after notching up his first Mersey win for some time in convincing style with 38-10-0 made up of six bream to 4lbs plus a cracking catch of roach. Groundbait feeder and maggot was the method of the day also used by runner-up Paul Hitchen with 14lbs.

What a difference a day makes. With the River Mersey carrying flood water it wasn't so kind to our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday and put paid to any notable catches. Derek Bibby won with 3-3-0 followed by Jimmy Byrne who weighed 2-2-0. Back on the cut next week!

Please email me your catch reports to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or you can ring me on 01928 716238. Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open on Friday between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, and any queries.
