24th November 2015 Warrington Anglers association Guardian Notes

24th November, 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

The remainder of our carp order is being delivered on Friday 27th November, 2015 kicking off again at Grey Mist Mere around where there will be a small top-up of C4 'black mirror babies' the result of rescued spawn from Colne Mere Lake before it was polluted killing everything including the famous 50lbs black mirror. It would appear that the recent new stock has encouraged the resident carp to start feeding as reports are filtering through of some decent sessions. For those who really do want to help improve their fishery and don't mind a bit of graft there is a working party the following day on the Mist. Meet on car park 10am.

This week I came across Lee Latham and his five year old son Jay who were both enjoying a drop-shotting session on the Bridgewater Canal at Preston Brook. As I chatted to his dad the youngster was expertly casting across to the far bank overhanging bushes and had already caught a perch and a pike. At the final count Lee had three perch to 8oz whereas Jay was on fire ending up with eight perch and two pike and lost a bigger one at the net when the hook pulled out.

Our Saturday Series on the Mersey was cancelled due to adverse conditions but our Christmas Match on Sunday went ahead with nineteen anglers taking part. Bob Clough fished a ground-bait feeder and maggot to catch two skimmers to 1.5lbs along with three roach for a weight of 3-2-0. Norman Gannon fishing the same method had a single skimmer of 1-7-0 in the closing ten minutes and to his dismay lost an even bigger fish. Nevertheless to help both get into the Christmas spirit aside from their cash winnings they each received a 70cl bottle of the amber nectar. Spirits were also shared amongst other competitors.

Following Lenny Dutton's win last week at our Disabled & Over 60's match on the Bridgewater Canal the change of venue this week to the Trent & Mersey saw him notch up another albeit shared with fellow angler Alan Brown who had the same weight. The conditions were not ideal and saw anglers really struggling for bites following heavy frost. Lenny and Alan managed to keep ahead of the rest with the lowest winning catch so far this year of 8oz-6drams.

Please email me your catch reports to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or you can ring me on 01928 716238. Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open on Friday between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, and any queries.
