18th August, 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Member Peter Hilton fished the Bridgewater canal at Astley Green last week with only moderate success, unfortunately lots of floating weed was enough to put a dampener on his days fishing. So he decided instead to turn his attention turned to his surroundings and do a clean up on the towpath area. He managed to remove two large bags of cans, bottles and fast food cartons from the tow path between the two bridges. Although the fishing had not lived up to his expectations he had the real satisfaction of looking back at the clean and much improved area and a job well done. It is such a picturesque spot around the lily pad stretch and so sad that people find it too difficult to dispose of their rubbish properly and allow others to enjoy's the area.. On Monday Peter was out again and gave Rixton Clay Pits a try he managed two nice bream around 2lb. on float fished sweetcorn then caught a heftier one on worm. The bream are showing up in numbers on the Mersey with Jimmy Byrne having five bream best 8.4.0 and ten skimmers in his 45+ winning weight which was only three pounds behind Mersey match record holder Bob Clough's 48lb record. Second place Barry Chambers had eight bream in his 19 lb catch best 8.2.0 Sunday's match was all about sevens in that Peter Jones having his first win in the series included six bream in his catch best was 7.15.0 second place Ant Higham included one of 7.9.0 in his catch. Bailiff Charlie Breeze reports that Small Sandiway is fishing well Dave Simpson was on for an overnighter and had six carp best 19lb and five tench biggest at 7.10.0 not a bad catch for one night all his takes were between midnight and 7am all fish falling to meat flavour boilies. Not a lot to report from the big lake as the regulars keep their information close to their chests although there have been a few fish caught and it has been fishing well on the quiet. Another angler reported that he found human excrement on one of the pegs on Big Sandiway which is particularly disgusting. I sincerely hope it was not one of our members who was responsible. On a much pleasanter note James Makin and Andy Burrows are doing a work party on Grey Mist mere removing weed on Friday 21st August from 9am so if anyone is available to give a hand it would be much appreciated. Just a note to our newer members please make sure you are opening the right lock when you are accessing the locked car parks the locks are in the lock boxes on the actual barrier or gate and not the locks which are hanging below. Please email me your catch reports to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or you can ring me on 01928 716238.
