1st April 2014 Warrington Anglers Guardian Notes

1st April 2014 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

A number of anglers were caught on our waters last week fishing night sessions when either not booked on or without a Night Permit. This is not only against our rules but it is selfish and prevents members who adhere to them from making full use of pegs that should be available. It should be borne in mind that any member subsequently banned from our club for a serious breach of rule may now be banned from other clubs.

Additional to this we do allow Junior Members to fish at night when they are accompanied by either a parent who must be a member, hold a night permit, and be appropriately booked on. Additionally parents can opt to apply and sign up for another member whom they deem appropriate to accompany their child, but that person also must comply with our conditions and rules. On no account must a junior be on our fisheries at night without being accompanied as above or the privilege to fish at night will be immediately withdrawn.

The fourth round of the Cheshire Spring League was fished on the Macclesfield Canal at on Saturday and although Bob Campbell who was top of the leader board had an abysmal match only scoring three points so did his arch rival Phil Cross who only managed four. So the upshot is that despite failing to maintain his perfect score he still leads the pack with 6 points and Phil next on 8. Following is Martin Griffiths on 11 who won on the day with 5-10-0 that included a 1lb skimmer and some chunky perch. Although I suspect the win hardly compensated for his pole that he broke in three places during the last twenty minutes of the match.  Graham Belton was runner-up with an all roach net for 4-7-0.

Barry Chambers had his first taste of success since early October last year by winning our Disabled & Over 60’s event on Monday with 4-12-8 which included a bream of 1.5lbs taken on his first cast with his next cast snaring its similarly sized mate. Rarely out of the frame and this week’s runner-up is George Barber with 3-14-10.

Match organiser John Dagnall who was pegged next to the winner had yet another pole related nightmare. Following last week’ destruction derby when he smashed his butt section and two others he opted to borrow his daughter’s pole of a similar lineage. Thinking the top kits were interchangeable he decided in the interests of potential damage limitation to use his own.  Now you are ahead of me because nothing fitted and he was forced to fish the whole of the match by adapting his cupping kit!

Rixton Claypits is consistently producing skimmers and bream along with a few tench to mainly maggot however the carp are now starting to feed according to our bailiff with fish reported to 20lbs. At Grey Mist Mere on Friday I took a picture of Brian Yardley holding a quality tench that he just happened to catch as I was passing, this was followed by three more weighing in at 5lbs, 5-3-0, and 5-6-0. He tempted all the fish using a maggot feeder and lost an even bigger fish.

Please note that Grey Mist Mere is closed on both Saturday and Sunday, 5th & 6th April for both peg maintenance and the removal of litter left by a moronic minority. Working party starts each day at 10am. Those who turn up and help can fish after we wind up. It is really sad that we need to go to such extremes such that the decent majority suffer for the disgusting habits of a few who we definitely do not want as members.  Leaving litter is an automatic ban.

Please keep those catch reports coming in as they are invaluable to this column and fellow members planning fishing trips. Either ring me on 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
