19th March 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

19th March 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

The Northern Angling Show will take place at Event City, at Manchester's Trafford Centre, on the 23rd& 24th March this weekend and is expected to attract 10,000 visitors eager to try out its purpose built lakes for carp and coarse fishing.

Angling seminars, rig and bait clinics, and demonstrations will also feature as part of the weekend attraction. Fishing experts will be offering advice and tips throughout the weekend and visitors will be able to take advantage of some great show deals and bargains from brands including Korda, Nash, Aqua, Trakker, Guru and Peg One that will be showcasing the latest equipment and tackle. Tickets start from just £10 and are available at www.northernanglingshow.co.uk and don't forget the Northern Angling Show invitation sent out to members entitles them to a £2 discount ticket. Just show it on arrival.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Walton was won by local match ace Derek Bibby with an impressive 9-2-8 of roach taken on pole fished caster and bread at 12metres. Alan Brown in runner-up position fished a similar method for his net of roach for 5-11-8. In fact it was almost an all roach match with fish to a 1lb being caught and lots of weights hovering or over the 3lbs mark. Match organiser John Dagnall was one of the lower weights at over 1.5lbs which was vastly different from the previous day in the Supercup practice match when he was the top rod with a double figure catch.

Last weekend saw our local group of bailiffs at Balfour Pool join locals in a massive clean-up of the extensive wetland area and the pool. The combined group of volunteers removed a full skip of rubbish from the area. Our guys were certainly busy networking and made contact with two local scout groups with a view to the youngsters attaining their conservation/angler activity badge. We will be starting soon on general weed removal and building new pegs so anyone wishing to volunteer will be more than welcome.

Don't forget our rivers including the Mersey are now closed to coarse angling so it is down to members to keep their eyes open for poachers and illegal fishing that seem to escalate once law abiding anglers leave the banks. We have carried out patrols both by boat and on foot and will take action against lawbreakers. The emergency number for the Environment Agency is 0800 807060.

Friday night is our AGM which starts prompt at 8pm. Entry by 2013 paid up membership cards only.
