30th October 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

30th October 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

George's Fishing Tackle in Wigan has acted as our membership outlet for a good number of years however George and his wife Dorothy have decided to retire so they can see more of their grandchildren and hopefully find more time to actually go fishing. So on behalf of all our members I wish them both a long and happy retirement and thank them for all they have done for Warrington Anglers Association. From immediate effect Coppull Anglers will take over the reins as our local outlet. Their address is 144, Spendmore Lane, Coppull, Nr. Chorley PR7 5BX Tel. 01257 794040.

I have a report from Paul Edwards who had a really good session on the River Ribble at our Hurst Green stretch on the weekend before last. On arrival at the bankside the river level was up between 4 and 5feet but undeterred he set up his two ledger rods but needed a 5oz lead to hold bottom. Using Sonu Baits spicy sausage on one rod and Source boilies on the other plus groundbait and halibut pellet in the feeder he sat down expecting little in the way of action. I am certain that he didn't mind in the least to be proven wrong as his catch of seven barbel shows, weighing in order 9-2-0, 7-8-0, 3-3-0, 6-5-0, 12-9-0, 12-14-0, and 10-5-0.

The River Mersey looked in perfect condition for our Sunday Series event, however all that glitters is not gold and Jimmy Byrnes needed only 3-5-0 to take the win. After his amazing long run Ross Wightman for once was not in second place for as I said in my last weeks column 'I have a feeling his luck may change,' well it certainly did, but for the worst when his runner up spot was taken Anthony Higham with 1-13-0.

Our Disabled & Over 60's event certainly saw an improvement on last week and for most again a lot of small fish were caught which looks promising for the future. Jeff Clare made certain of a win with a last minute slab taken on pellet to add to his net of roach for 6-5-4.  Runner-up Jimmy Byrne was less than an ounce behind with 6-4-8.

Many thanks to those members who send me their catch reports, please keep them coming. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 8-30pm every Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
