2nd October 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

2nd October 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Martin James snatched a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon at Ackers pit on the pretext of trying out his new pole. Despite a gloom and doom prediction by a fellow angler on the dire state of sport undeterred he started off with bread punch at 6metres that attracted only small roach. A change of method, cupping in finely chopped worm and half a dendrobena on the hook soon brought a change of fortune in the shape of clonking roach, mainly in the 6 – 8oz bracket, but with a few easily pushing a pound plus a handful of decent perch. Martin commented, "It was just like the Ackers of old".

It was chaos last week with problems on the Manchester Ship Canal caused by a 40ft tree that in the floods parked itself against a sluice gate jamming the mechanism. This had a knock on effect on the Mersey as a drain down was needed so a repair could be carried out. Thankfully in this respect all has now returned to normal. Not so the breach on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Dutton where a number of fish ended up in a flooded field. British Waterways Trust was quick to answer this emergency and contained the dewatered section to a short stretch. There is still water in the canal channel that still holds the majority of the fish and these along with those in the field should be rescued before the end of the week and transferred to the fully watered section near Black Price Boats at Acton Bridge. It looks like the breach repair will take a number of months.

Peter Bradford is happy with his catches from Rixton Claypits, on Thursday he had s 5lbs tench plus a 7.5lbs bream. A return to the venue on Monday produced six bream to 3lbs.

Pete Critchley was the top rod at our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday which was held on the Bridgewater Canal between Daresbury Labs and Keckwick Hill Bridge.  Pete fished pole and caster at 12metres for a 4-2-2 net of mainly roach plus tiny skimmers. The perennial Jimmy Byrne was runner up with 3-12-0 fishing a similar method. Mainly roach were caught by all anglers with several fish over the 1lb mark.

There have been thefts from boats committed in the Stockton Heath area so would anglers please ring the police immediately if they see anything suspicious.
