16th October 2012 Warrington Anglers Guardian Notes

18th October 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

It is always sad to report the death of one of our elderly members but to report the loss of nineteen year old Jack Bellis, one of our bright young anglers is just heartbreaking. Jack passed away at the weekend as a result of a tragic motorcycle accident. He was a key member of our match squad and rose quickly through the ranks since joining our Minnows as a young boy. Jack will be greatly missed by all, especially by his peers and the younger anglers who looked up to him as a role model. Our condolences and deepest sympathy go to his family and friends.

Popular Woodshaw Reservoir is really on form and saw venue regular Alan Webber on a quick session to use up some cubed luncheon meat left over from an earlier match proceed to empty the place with a succession of quality roach, crucians, and bream. Alan fished the pole at 8metres. James Lewis reports a good catch of crucians and bream from the venue on his home-made spicy sausage paste fished close in on his top four pole sections. Sport is generally patchy on Fosters Pools but the tiny Carp Pool is providing good catches of small crucians and roach.

There is nothing to write home about at Grey Mist Mere where it is still very slow, likewise Sandiway lakes where the smaller 17acre water is out-fishing the somewhat daunting 53acre fishery; not too difficult as according to reports not much has been caught from the latter for the better part of last week. Still the fish are in these venues but that's fishing, however all will benefit from their regular stocking at year end.

Our Mersey series on Sunday saw the river heavily coloured and judging by the results out of sorts. Martin Griffiths needed only 3-12-0 to secure another win on the venue followed by our seemingly regular second placed member, match organiser Ross Wightman.

The following day saw our Disabled & Over 60's match fished on the Bridgewater Canal produce much better weights with winner Jeff Clare having a good net of skimmers and bream for 10-2-8. Graham Belton was kept busy throughout the match with 6-14-0 of small silver fish to take the runner-up spot. The venue switched on and fished really well with a fair number of 3 & 4lbs catches. Bread, caster, or squat accounted for most weights.

Many thanks to those members who send me their catch reports, please keep them coming. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 8-30pm every Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
