29th May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

27th May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

This past week fish have been busy spawning at many of our fisheries and consequently sport has been generally slow. But on the River Dee our bailiff tells me that the water conditions couldn't be better at Almere Ferry for salmon on the fly. Similarly good numbers of sea-trout to 3lbs are showing on the Wyre and salmon around 9lbs have been reported. This latter small river is often overshadowed by The Ribble but it is definitely worth a visit.

Wigan waters remain in the spotlight again this week with a report from Mark Carter on Tuesday who had a good catch of crucian carp and roach from Mowpin Pool which is part of our Forsters Pools mini-complex at Wigan. Mark fished the pole at 8metres and fed hemp with red maggot on the hook for a 30lbs plus net of fish. Meanwhile on the same day at Woodshaw Reservoir Dave Kenyon fished the pole and banded halibut pellet at 11 metres to take fifteen tench and crucians with the latter going up to 3lbs.

Ian and Lee Eccleston enjoyed last week exploring our waters and were especially impressed with The Mount which was their first visit to the fishery. Ian had set up one rod and was deciding where to place the second when the first roared off resulting in a tench around 4lbs. Within minutes Lee's rod went and she was into a carp which at 6-10-0 beat her previous PB. Two further carp were landed at 8-14-0 and 9-2-0 but both lost a couple each in snags. They returned on Friday and Lee had several carp plus a surprise bream 6-8-0 whilst her husband Ian managed a fish of 10-6-0.

I am pleased to have received a few reports on High Legh fishery where the carp have been featuring in catches. Definitely good news is that shoals of roach are showing despite the fact that as yet following the winter fish kill none have been stocked. Tench and crucians will be stocked in due course.

Due to the hot weather and the fact that match organiser John Dagnall did not fancy giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to any of the regulars at our Disabled & Over 60's match it was moved into the shade on the dead length. Although weights suffered it was a close match won by Lenny Dutton with 2-13-6 followed by Chris Grehan on 2-10-4.

The Junior Summer Series saw Lewis Wightman fishing an end peg hook a bonus bream to give him the top spot with 3-6-14 whilst Adam Harman on the opposite end peg came in second with 2-12-14. The Intermediate match was won by Tom Oliver with the low weight of 13-8.

I really would appreciate more members catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm every Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
