15th May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

15th May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Last week I reported that rumours were circulating that 'the big one' made a recent appearance from Moore Quarry, well the plot thickens because a little bird told me that Andy Weston not only had a PB tench of 10-4-0 last week but as a bonus was also the mystery captor of the 34-10-0 mirror, also a UK PB taken in the same session. What a double!

Ralph Bennett fished an afternoon session on the Mount for the first time last weekend in blustery wind and showers mixed with bright sunlight, a real weather mixture and not ideal conditions for fishing. His small method feeder and double corn offering produced nothing but a few strands of weed. So instead of double corn he changed to single and added a yellow foam ball to his hair rig which brought about an immediate result, a 4lbs tench followed by three others along with four carp around 3lbs apiece. He will be back. New member Stuart Dunning on his first visit to a WAA fishery had a common of 7lbs plus three around 14lbs whilst his mate had eight carp.

Charles Gould fished Grey Mist Mere for the first time last week and smashed his tench PB twice with fish of 6-3-0 and 6-5-0. His son James only managed one tench at 6-9-0 taken on waggler tactics.

Both our teams were knocked out of the Angling Times Supercup Competition last weekend. Warrington Black captained by Craig Richie came close with a 4 section apiece score but were defeated on a weight count back by the local team Isaac Walton 260lbs to 238lbs. Highlights were Stuart Hardman who won the match with 68lbs and Nathan Rowles who won his section with 47lbs. Our Warrington Blue team were at the wrong end of a 5 – 3 result against Mersey Dockers but Neil Davies was second in the match with 22-2-0 and our young star Jake Fowles won his section with 20lbs. Best of luck to both Isaac Walton and Mersey Dockers in the coming rounds.

The Disabled & Over 60's match fished poorly this week with winner Barry Owen needing only 4lbs to take the top prize money. Runner up Lenny Dutton was not too far behind with 3-10-0. Catches were mainly skimmers and small roach to maggot or caster.

Our Junior and Intermediate Summer Series kicked off on Monday and saw junior member Morgan Adawee complete a hat trick of three wins in consecutive years of this first annual match. This year his 2-10-6 was enough to take the win. Tom Oliver won the Intermediate match with 1-14-8.

Our Fish of the Month competition for April was won by Adam Whelan with a common carp caught from Cicily Mill Pool weighing 21-8-0. Many thanks to the other entrants who were unsuccessful on this occasion.

I really would appreciate more members catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm every Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
