6th March 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
There were some pretty good match results this past week on our canal venues, the best came from our Disabled & Over 60's match where veteran member, George Barber followed up his win in this event last week to put an impressive 10-13-0 on the scales for another win. George had skimmers and roach on pole-fished bread and caster. Dave Blease was runner up with a similar net of fish for 9-10-0. Again the fish were tightly shoaled in two clearly defined areas.
Our popular WAA winter league saw Warrington Red increase their overall lead by another three points with only a couple of matches remaining in the series. The Cheshire Gold team member Ros Whiteman took the individual honours with a mixed net for 6-14-9 followed closely by his fellow team member Craig Richie who eerily put the sign of the devil on the scales 6-6-6.
New member Rickie Jones tried a spot of pike fishing on the Bridgewater Canal at Grappenhall and was rewarded with a near double on his first cast. His wobbled dead bait under a float tight to the near bank had only been retrieved 10 to 15metres when the fish struck. However it was his only fish of the session but in those immortal words "I'll be back."
Bailiff Steve Kemble made some time to actually go fishing on Grey Mist last week and on the Tuesday caught five carp including one of the new fish, a mirror of 20-3-0 that had lost 5ozs since being stocked followed by a three fish catch on Thursday which included a 22lbs mirror that had put on a pound since being released in January 2012. He has been awarded our Fish of the Month prize of over £100 of Baitech products plus a Korda carp care kit.
I really hate that minority of members who call themselves anglers and think it is fine to leave their rubbish for decent members to pick up in their wake. What beggars belief is that these morons take more trouble to try and hide their rubbish than it would take to simply take it home. We have a cracking team of member volunteers working hard to improve Grey Mist and this sort of behaviour is an outright insult to their efforts.
I would welcome any catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm every Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
