27th April 2021 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

27th April 2021 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

This week Adam Barlow and his son Oliver 8years fished a session at the Mount, Buckley where the youngster hit the jackpot with a perch of 1-8-0 which took double red maggot float-fished a rod length from the bank. There wasn't a lot happening but the keen youngster sat there all day with his feet in the water float fishing and when he hooked it his dad thought he'd snagged the bottom due to the bend it put in his light float rod. Nice one Oliver.

Steve Ossett found the Mount roach in a feeding mood on Friday in this popular mixed fishery where specimens can go over the magical 2lbs. He fished maggot and feeder tactics for a 20lbs bag which included a few perch.

Craig Lynskey took his son Alfie aged 14years to Rixton Claypits on Sunday and after seeing signs of shoals of bream but no visible carp he baited with 6mm SCOPEX squid pellets in mesh balls with a scattering of 15 mm flavoured boilies and a 12mm SCOPEX pop up at the business end. No carp but Alfie was more than happy with a 5lb 1oz tench he landed. They are planning their next adventures to Appleton Reservoir and Small Sandiway.

Dave Gardner and Ken Hewitt were at Woodshaw Reservoir on Wednesday, Ken caught five Perch biggest about 8oz and four roach 4 to 6 oz. on pole and maggot. Dave had a cracking session starting with a 3.5lbs bream on ledgered pellet, four roach, biggest 12oz, five perch with two touching 1.5lb, and one small chub. The pair enjoyed a morning session on Tuesday at Statham Pool where they both started on the tip but with nothing happening changed to pole and maggot. Ken managed a 12oz roach plus two tench. Dave had 18 roach to just under a pound, 3 perch, and a bream just over 2lb. They reckoned that despite the muddy banks its still a smashing fishery.

This week our Disabled & Over 60's event was held on the Bridgewater Canal at the Tramps Grave saw a new winner when during his second only match with WAA Terry Dunn defeated the experts. He may have only had three fish but his method worked on the day when he put two bream and one perch in the weigh-net sending the scale pointer to 6lbs dead. His two chunky bream fell to large bread punch and a change to worm added the perch. George Barber aka The Breadman was second with a roach catch boosted by a bonus 2lbs bream all taken on the 'white stuff' for 4-4-0. Twenty anglers turned out.

Last week Dave Saunders enjoyed a two-hour afternoon fly-fishing session on the Vyrnwy at Llanymynech. The water was crystal clear and a bit low, but hardly surprising with the recent dry spell. He managed a brown trout and a couple of salmon par but will be out again this week, so best of luck Dave.

Please note that any members wishing to fish the River Dee at Worthenbury that the track is rough and the style entry to our stretch has vanished along with a large section of bank during the floods. At present until we either erect a new style or have a padlock fitted to the adjacent farmers field gate a climb over it is the only option.
