1st October 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

On Tuesday Neil Plunkett thought he would see if his previous successful trip to the Mount was just a flash in the pan and eight carp later, he had his answer despite the weather being a right mix with low temperatures, fog, high wind, followed by blue skies. Four seasons in one day, but Neil was more than happy with his catch which included some doubles and a cracking bonus roach not far off the magical 2lbs mark that took a liking to his luncheon meat offering.

Jamie Rogerson visited the Weaver Navigation for the first time on Monday having to put up with torrential rain and muddy pegs and definitely not expecting much action. But after a blank first hour on the pole he had his first roach which took double red maggot fished over a bed of groundbait, maggot, and hemp mix. This was followed by about thirty roach and perch and plans for a return visit.

Karl Kenny had a productive overnight session at Appleton Reservoir on Friday with three carp weighing in at 17lbs, 18lbs, and a new PB of 24-7-0. Lee Sherratt was also very happy with his three carp catch from the same fishery.

Our Sunday Mersey match series this week at Mersey Walk was to put it mildly hard in the flood conditions compounded by a high tide. Veteran angler Jimmy Byrne fished close in on a groundbait feeder with a few maggots and chopped worm in the mix to take another win with ten small eels for a weight of 2-13-0. Chris Wray also fished a groundbait feeder and maggot to catch a brace of skimmers for 1-10-0. Only three anglers caught!

Our Disabled and Over 60's match on Monday held on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Billinge was won by our Vice President Geoff Brooks with 5-9-0 made up of skimmers, roach, perch, and gudgeon. He fished pole and maggot, but nothing you can buy from a tackle shop, these were no less than Geoff's home-bred gozzers. What he used to breed the plump white beauties is still top secret. Jimmy Byrne who drew at the opposite end of the match took second place with 5-5-10 of mainly skimmers caught alternating between maggot and caster.
