15th October 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

ken Hewitt and Dave Gardner fished a session on Monday on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Anderton Marina. Ken set up a waggler and loose-fed maggot ending up with eighteen fish which included three large gudgeon and the remainder roach and perch. Dave fished pole and maggot and caught twenty roach and single perch. on a pole.

Mike Pritchard decided on a change from his Saturday trip to the River Mersey and this week his second fishery of choice was Ackers Pit. He fished waggler using maggot and pinkie on the hook but after a blank first hour followed by a couple of small roach he changed to caster. The result was what he described as a golden last hour catching forty roach to 8oz plus a skimmer. As a point of interest bream were not stocked following the Pit being de-watered but will have come in as fry via the Bridgewater Canal feeder pipe.

A few carp coming out of an unsurprisingly very muddy Appleton Reservoir and our bailiff reports one member on Small Sandiway had seven runs which resulted in five carp landed, the best at 24lbs. Andy Clark and his son managed four carp all low doubles from the Mount on a Friday overnight session when they had the place to themselves.

Our Sunday Mersey match series this week at Mersey Walk saw Jimmy Byrne take another win with a weight of 14-4-0 made up of a 3lb bream, two five pounders, and a brace of small roach. He fished an 80gm groundbait feeder with double red maggot out of the main flow on what was an out of sorts river carrying a fair amount of extra water. His rig was regularly dragged down the swim by the strong current and floating debris. Pete Howard took second place again this week using the same method to catch a bonus bream of 5lbs to which he added skimmers for 7-15-0.

Our Disabled and Over 60's match on Monday was fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Hough's Bridge and saw match organiser Jimmy Byrne clock up yet another win. He was pegged in 'The Dead Length' where there was shoals of small roach with members catching up to 100 fish. Jimmy started off catching them on red maggot but soon changed and targeted the larger perch by swapping to pieces of worm on the hook to end up with 3-11-12. Barry Chambers was second with 3-8-6.
