13th September 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

13th August 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

John Nicholls was pleased to report 'that the big grassie is still with us' as he caught the fish at 29lb on his Saturday overnight session at Moore Quarry. Apart from treating a small scab and hook hold the fish went back full of beans and looked awesome.

Head bailiff James Makin enjoyed a peaceful session at Grey Mist on his Saturday night session when he kicked off with a 17.5lb linear from the Boathouse Swim shortly after setting up.  It was a long wait until his next run at 5-45am which resulted in a 21lb 3oz specimen. Both fish were caught using a Ronnie Rig using Sticky Baits pineapple pop-ups.

Apart from some decent tench catches reported weeks ago on Phoenix park Lake it was a pleasant change to learn that Ste Worrall reports landing a 16lbs carp last week. It is some years now since we last stocked carp in this fishery and to cap it all a couple of years ago a consignment was almost there when we found the lock had been either tampered with or changed and all but for a container of fish that volunteers carried from the gate the rest were diverted to Rixton Claypits.

Keith Starkey set his stall out for tench at Grey Mist on Tuesday morning and started off with 5-8-0 beauty but a change from big maggot feeder to a hybrid feeder and pellets really kickstarted the action when a further seven fish followed, the smallest at 4-8-0 and the biggest came last at 7-8-0.

The Saturday Mersey match series fished again at Kingsway Allotments was again won this week by match organiser Ray Boden with exactly the same weight of 5-4-0 made up of a skimmer around the pound mark with the rest made up of roach and perch, all taken on a groundbait feeder and maggot. Jim Gannon was second with 4-10-0 off silver bream and roach on the same method.

The 2nd Association Rod Only match was fished on Sunday ay Mersey Walk was won by Jimmy Byrne with 16-15-0 made up of three bream to 4lbs and the rest skimmers. Jimmy fished a groundbait feeder and maggot as did second placed Alan Morris with a catch bream and skimmers for a weight of 11-12-0.

Our Disabled and Over 60's match on Monday held on the Bridgewater Canal at Delph Lane, Keckwick was won by Derek Bibby with a catch of eighty roach, perch, and gudgeon for 4-6-10 taken on the pole using bread and pinkie. Jimmy Byrne took second place with 3-11-8.
