4th June 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

The Mount at Buckley is still producing some excellent sport and working party member David Trusler reports a couple of days excellent fishing on the middle and main lake catching quality roach and tench on quiver tip using corn and home-made cheese paste. He also gave heartening news that tench up to 3/4lb have been showing. Dave Mather enjoyed a four-hour session with some cracking roach well over 1.5lb taken on pole and hemp.

After a few weeks when weekends were taken up with other unavoidable priorities Kyle Tilbury decided on a quick overnight session on Grey Mist on Sunday where he fished his usual tactics of a snowman set-up over a scattering of boilies. His first run came just as he was settling down for the night, a leather carp of 16lbs. Just after the bewitching hour his other rod went and a 15lbs mirror, followed by another of 14lbs were the result. Kyle reckons the midge bites were a small price to pay. Also, on the Mist new member christened his new card with a 22lbs common on his first visit to a WAA water.

Phil Lacy followed up a new PB carp of 19-8-0 last week on double red maggot and corn and went on to smash his tinca PB on Sunday, landing fish of 6-12-0, 8-2-0. And 8-8-0. He had set himself a modest season target of 6lbs so to say he is chuffed is an understatement. What happens next season Phil?

Reports have filtered back that a new member was told that 'the unwritten rule' on Sandiway of where day angers can fish as it is unfair to night permit holders. Let me dispel this completely, there are no unwritten rules and every member has the absolute right to fish any peg on a 'first come first served basis.'

Working Party on Sandiway Lakes this weekend on Saturday meeting on bottom carpark little lake around 9-30am. Anyone fishing 'the beach' is asked to vacate by 10am for necessary works. There's plenty to do, peg repairs, general tidying, and snag removal so all volunteers welcome.

Our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match this week was on the Bridgewater Canal at Keckwick and was won by Lennie (End Peg) Dutton with a weight of 2-9-8 of small roach and gudgeon. Graham Belton in second place was less than 2oz adrift with 2-7-12. There wasn't 8oz between the first four weight albeit they were on the low side.

Members who take the trouble to send in catch reports earn the appreciation of fellow members as it helps them to know how waters are fishing and plan their outings. Equally important, they give me something to write about! Email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm. New members are welcome to call in and join, current ones can renew their subscription, or night permit.
