29th January 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
On Sunday our netting teams trip to Wales was cancelled due to the gales, however it certainly didn't put Tom Fahey off his trip to Grey Mist, as it turned out he was the only angler booked on the fishery during his overnight session. He simply battened down the hatches and at 9-30pm was rewarded with a cracking mirror carp weighing 17-4-0 that took a fancy to his sticky krill offering. Nice one Tom.
New members Mark Jones and his son Jake did a Saturday night session on the Mount at Buckley and inevitably got caught up in Sunday's gale, although the youngster slept throughout oblivious to the gusts battering the bivvi. It was their first trip to one of our waters and despite a few bent pegs and losing his bivvi skin to bankside bushes Mark was happy with the two carp he landed.
Many thanks to David Bright and his son Joe who after being informed by a member of the public that a tree had blown down across the centre track at Sandiway they immediately wound in their rods and weighed up the situation. As luck would have it, although not an ideal tool for the job, they had a reciprocating saw in their vehicle and got to work. Result, job done.
Our Sunday Mersey Series at Mersey Walk saw weights plummet this week and veteran Jim Gannon needed only 1-12-0 to take his first win of 2019. Jim fished a groundbait feeder and maggot for his catch of ten roach. However, it was a close-run thing as second placed Bas Chambers also weighed in ten roach but was an ounce light with 1-11-0.
A partially iced over Woodshaw Reservoir hosted our Monday's Disabled & Over 60's Match this week and bites were so scarce that only the four anglers who framed caught and in fact had any indication of fish presence in their swim. Alan Brown had one bite which resulted in a small carp of 1-13-0, more than enough to secure the win. Runner-up Joe Garry likewise had one bite to weigh 0-8-12. In fact, the four anglers had only eight fish between them!

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm. 2019-night permits are now available from HQ. You can no longer book on with last year's numbers. The 2019 membership book post out has started so should be landing on doormats anytime soon. On receipt the 2018 one is invalid and the new one must be paid before fishing any of our waters.
