10th April 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

10th April, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Phillip Brown reports that the tench are starting feed on Grey Mist where last week he caught five of the olive beauties all around the 6lb mark. Phil fished a block-end feeder about 30 yds out with a bunch of maggots on the hook. I am also informed that a few carp are being caught but disturbingly have received a report that an angler sacked a fish last week. All carp and tench must be returned to the water immediately and not retained overnight for a catch shot.

Jamie Bretherton visited Rixton Claypits for the first time and came away after four hours suitably impressed. He fished a small method feeder and alternated between double maggot and corn to end his session with eight bream around 3lbs and six tench which he reckons were mainly averaging 3lbs with one approaching 5lbs. A return visit is definitely on the cards.

A notice has been posted that one of our depots, Lionel's Tackle at Buckley is closing so with immediate effect members can no longer join or pay their annual subscription there. The nearest Warrington Anglers Association depot to Buckley is Chester Tackle Locker which is open every day except Sunday. Telephone 01244 345069.

This week our Monday at our Disabled & Over 60's match was fished on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Farm Road and although catches were not going to set the world alight it was won by committee member Graham Belton (Magnum). He put 2-14-8 of small roach on the scales caught on pinkie and small pole-cups of groundbait at 11 metres. Graham edged Jimmy Byrne into second place by a mere 8 drams or in other words half an ounce. Sixteen fished.

No apologies for repeating this important invite for the third week …. if any member is interested in having their say on the Coarse Fish Close Season on Rivers, cormorants, or any other priorities then you should attend the Angling Trust North West Fisheries Forum where they are asking for angler's ideas and opinions. It is on Wednesday the 18th April 2018 at Croft Memorial Hall, 5, Mustard Lane Croft, Warrington WA3 7BQ. It is free to attend. Tea & coffee served from 6-40pm and meeting begins at 7pm. This is your chance to make your voice heard.

Thanks for your catch reports which are always welcome, but more important, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
