12th September 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

12th September, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Congratulations to Dan Anderson who caught a cracking mirror carp last weekend from our Association owned 53acre lake at Sandiway. The stunning looking fish weighed 36lbs, but unfortunately when the report of this memorable catch was posted onto our Facebook page it brought some adverse comments from some members as to why it was made public. Well, it may come as a surprise to these people but as a club such good publicity not only encourages existing members but helps bring in new members to help pay for such fish and fund our ongoing stocking program.

Stuart Peters fished our stretch of the River Wye on Saturday and reports catching only one barbel using halibut pellet but a change to maggot and hemp in the feeder brought a bite every chuck. Loads of dace, chublets, grayling, and a handful of larger chub plus a couple more barbel for good measure. Worth the trip.

On Monday, our Disabled & Over 60's match was on the Bridgewater Canal at Preston Brook and Lenny Dutton famous for his end peg draws put his hand in the bag and drew yet another.  Lenny made it pay with a winning net of roach and skimmers for 6-15-0. Bread man, George Barber took second place using pole and punch for 5-6-6.

Our Tuesday Mersey series match this week was won by Baz Chambers with 8-5-0 on roach and perch caught fishing the pole and casters. Only an ounce behind Rod Frazer and Derek Bibby shared second place with identical weights of 8-4-0.

Jim Gannon tackled a flooded River Mersey on our Saturday Series event using his favourite groundbait feeder and maggot method to take a well-deserved win with 5-7-0. Jim who does lots of work keeping the clubs fishing pegs and undergrowth in trim included skimmers, roach, and perch in his catch and could easily have doubled his winning weight had he not lost a 6lbs bream at the net…that's fishing. Alan Morris fished the same method to take second place with 4-1-0.

Bob Clough had 5lbs to spare when he won our Sunday Mersey match with a weight of 11-6-0 that included two 3lbs bonus bream plus roach and perch taken on groundbait feeder and maggot. Jim Gannon was in the frame again following on from his previous days win to take the runner-up spot with 6-6-0.

For a trial period, the committee has increased the night fishing at Worthington Lakes to two consecutive nights with immediate effect to encourage more members to fish this excellent fishery.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscriptions, night permit renewals, and any queries. Please email catch details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
