4th July, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes[f1]
Wow, a rare report indeed, in fact I cannot remember when I last received a report from the stretch of the Trent at Alrewas. Well, Ron Wade after first having to cut out a peg as the river had obviously not been fished for some time, didn't have a lot of fish but included in his catch two chub over 4lbs taken on legered bread flake and a brown trout of around 1lb taken on worm.
Our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday was fished this week on the Bridgewater Canal at Stage lane. Lenny (End peg) Dutton put together a net of small roach for a winning weight of 4-7-0. Alan Brown took second place with 3-14-0. Catches were mainly small roach from under far bank trees, nothing to write home about, but still a competition nevertheless.
It's getting repetitive, but the man is a Mersey expert, so no surprise that match organiser Ray Boden clocked up another win on our Mersey Saturday Series when he weighed in a nice net of roach and perch taken on pole and maggot for a weight of 11-4-0. Jimmy Byrnes was the runner-up fishing the same method with 7-1-0.
Our Sunday Sid Jones open was won by Dave Hill who had a bonus bream of 4lbs that boosted his weight to 8-2-0 all taken on pole and maggot. Paul Harding was the second placed angler who caught six skimmer bream, best around 1lb, plus small roach taken on ground bait feeder and maggot for a weight of 7-1-0. I don't know if anyone has spotted it but local match ace Jimmy Byrne framed in all three events.
I really cannot believe the disgusting habits of a minority of member that if caught will definitely be ex-members….permanently! This is the situation at our picturesque Mount Fishery at Buckley where our local team of volunteers put in countless hours of work to improve the access and angling opportunities for everyone. I am talking about those uncaring and selfish individuals who despite our strict rules on toilet requirements take it upon themselves to behave like animals and deposit their human waste on the bankside. Well, it's high time decent anglers stood up to be counted and report such persons because if the situation isn't immediately remedied the water will be closed for night fishing, which is a shame, for yet again the majority suffer for the antics of a few morons who we can well do without.
WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscriptions, night permit renewals, and any queries. Please email catch details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
