20th June 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

20th June, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes[f1]

Stuart Peters chose our stretch of the River Wye at Hay-on-Wye for his first river session with an overnighter Friday until 6-30am Saturday. It's some way to go but despite a blank period between 12mn to 3am he still managed fifteen chub ranging from 2 to 4lbs plus a barbel a just under 7lbs, losing another one in a snag. Stuart reports the lower beat is overgrown and of course we are still trying to sort out the access issues to this part. If approached please be polite.

Mike Pritchard was really looking forward to the 16th June as it was the opening of the outdated river close season for coarse fish. With only time enough available for a quick session he targeted the River Mersey at Victoria park and despite his shock horror seeing five cormorants in his peg he still managed five roach, six perch, and two small chub of around 10oz which is good news indeed as it indicates that they are breeding. Mike fished the waggler and double pinkie.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday was fished this week at our Woodshaw Reservoir Fishery at Wigan. Jeff Garry put together a winning weight of 14-2-0 made up of crucians, bream, and roach taken on pole and pellet. Jimmy Byrne was in second place with 13-8-0. On a blistering hot day, everyone even in the low weights caught between 4 and 7lbs.

The first Association match of the season was won by Jim Gannon with 7-12-0 of skimmers to 1lb, roach, and perch taken on groundbait feeder and maggot. Match organiser Ray Boden was in the runner-up spot with 7-2-0 and just that crucial 1lb skimmer short of the win. Anyway, not too bad results for the first match of the season.

It always amazes me that a small minority of members just do not get it that the rules also apply to them. They are simple enough to follow and are there to protect both members and the club as well as making members fishing pleasurable. We are an easy-going club with great members so the committee will not tolerate their visits to our fisheries being spoiled by the few.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscriptions, night permit renewals, and any queries. Please email catch details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
