12th July 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

12th July, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
Carl Harrison enjoyed an afternoon/evening session on Rixton Claypits last Thursday where he managed to land five tench and ten bream on feeder and pellet as hook bait. Carl even managed to hook a pike on a worm oil soaked pellet but its teeth cut through his hook length. His trip on Saturday to Grey Mist wasn't as productive and considerably longer at fourteen hours although he did clock up three tench around the five pound mark all caught on tutti frutti dumbells.

Eric J Smith had a decent day on Cicely Mill Pool on Sunday when he landed around 30-35lb of fish in an eleven hour stint. It was hardly a bite a chuck but in decent surroundings who cares, certainly beats cutting the lawn. His catch consisted of four crucians with three over 2lb to a best of 2-9-0, a 4lb tench, three bream of a similar size, two hybrids and a perch that came in at 2-3-0. However Eric's fishing mate Fishless Fletcher is sadly temporarily of the scene as during a recent trip to Woodshaw Reservoir a DIY task that took him four weekends reared its ugly head when he received an urgent phone call from his wife telling him that the newly installed toilet was leaking. End of session and he now has to replace the bathroom floor, carpet, and get the electrics checked as well as trying to get rid of the smell. Such is life.

Alan Birchall led the field with a clear margin when he won our Saturday Mersey Series doubling his previous weeks weight with a net of four skimmers to 12oz, perch, and roach for 10-14-0. Alan fished pole and maggot and took fish steadily whilst second placed local match ace Jimmy Byrne found things a tad slower albeit on the same method coming in second with an all roach and perch catch weighing 6-10-0.

Win number two for Ant Higham aka King of the River on our Mersey Sunday Series event with a net of ten skimmers to 2lbs, plus small roach and perch taken on his favourite method of groundbait feeder and maggot for 10-2-0. Runner-up Derek Bibby fished the pole and loose-fed maggots for an all roach catch of 7-4-0.

A change of venue from the Trent & Mersey Canal to the Mersey at Kingsway allotments saw Jimmy Byrne clock up a win to accompany a second and fourth place on this same venue over the weekend. It was ironically his lowest weight of the three matches when he put a mixed net of roach and perch on the scales for 6-7-0. Match stalwart Derek Bibby was runner-up with 4-10-8.

Weights returned to normal at our Woodshaw Junior Summer League on Monday which was won by Scott Roberts with 14-6-0 taken on pole fished maggot. He not only added to his series points total but also as a bonus was the winner of our junior Harold Smith Cup. Tyler Davies fished the same method for a weight of 8-11-0 and second place.

I mentioned last week that High Legh needed a bit of attention, mainly trimming back overhanging bushes and grass cutting. Well it was a small but select group without mentioning names so may I on behalf of our members thank you both for transforming the place.

Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscription and night permit renewals, and any queries. Your catch reports are always welcome, email me details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or ring me on 01928 716238.
