28th May, 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

28th May 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Our Wigan bailiff team report that Woodshaw Reservoir has now coloured up and is providing excellent sport with mainly crucians, roach, and a few tench and chub. Many thanks to one resident who lives near this water who when she approach two anglers who were stretching the 'one hour after sunset' rule and replied that they "were baggin up" whereupon she immediately rang our bailiff team as she thought they meant they were taking fish away in a bag. Within minutes two of our local team turned up as the members were wrapping up after a fantastic session.

Ben Hesketh managed to winkle out a few carp from Sandiway small lake he had four runs that accounted for three fish in the net. Best was a lower double that fell for a piece of fake corn fished close in over a light bed of hemp. Ben spotted good numbers of fish possibly shoaling ready to spawn. If any member spots fish obviously spawning please let us know immediately and we will close off the area to angling. This holds for any of our fisheries.

Neil Plunkett was thwarted at his attempt to fish popular Cicily Mill Pool so deviated to Grey Mist Mere where the unscheduled session saw him tempt five quality tench with several over the 6lbs mark. His last cast resulted in an eel estimated conservatively at 3lbs which he freely admits was thankful that it managed to shed the hook in marginal weed.

Members should note that due to the high water levels on The Mount at Buckley night fishing has been discontinued until the situation improves. There are really only three double pegs remaining without the dangerous exercise of wading across the submerged bridge which is not allowed in the interests of member safety. However I would ask that members fishing alone share their peg with another angler if requested. There is plenty of room and you never know you may learn some new tips.

Appleton Reservoir was like Blackpool over the weekend with cars parked everywhere. I wonder where the 'traffic wardens' were as they always seem to home onto our Disabled & Over 60's match whenever they have just a wheel over the pavement. Just an observation and possibly nothing remotely connected to the weekends organised festivities.

Don't forget until members have paid for their 2013 permit they are not allowed on any of our fisheries.  Keep sending in your catch reports which are invaluable to this column and fellow members. Either ring me on 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is open as usual between 7 & 9-00pm on Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
