20th November 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

20th November 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Chris Gaughan visited the River Dee at Worthenbury for the first time and was absolutely taken with the fishery. He ended his roving session with fifteen grayling, the best weighing 2lbs along with five brown trout to 1.5lbs. He also decisively lost a battle with a mystery large fish which doggedly refused to show itself easily snapping his 3lbs B.S. line. Method was stick float alternating between bronze maggot and caster. The track to this fishery is not too great but providing you don't own a boy racer and drive with care it is passable. We have discussed the possibility of a remedy but with the size of the tractors using it and the annual flooding anything short of a tarmac surface would not last five minutes.

Following last weeks stocking Grey Mist saw some action on Thursday Keith Barlow when landed another mirror of 20lbs which bailiffs identified as being a new fish that was introduced last year at 16lbs. His mate Mike Robinson had a fish of 15-4-0 and another of 13lbs. One more stocking at the end of 2013 and this fishery should be back to where it was before the old fish fell off the perch and with fish of known pedigrees. The tench fishing is definitely rates amongst the best in the North West but it is a pity about the cormorant predation that continues to decimate the roach population.

The Disabled and Over 60's match fished at Red Lane was one of two halves where all the weights came from the Houghs Bridge end whilst the rest struggled for ounces. Barry Owen had a nice net of roach for 4-5-4 taken on bread punch but runner-up Pete Critchley had to work hard for 4-1-10 made up of eighty to ninety tiny roach. I am informed that the flask search proved negative.

Paul Harding who won our Mersey Series match on Sunday included a bonus bream in his 5-8-5 net, whereas second placed Pete Critchley drew an end peg and put together an all roach catch of 4-5-2. The flow conditions were far from ideal and the river pushing through meant that extra lead was needed by those who opted for the feeder method.

A set of car keys has been found on our Sandiway small lake. Please contact me for details.

Many thanks to those members who send me their catch reports, please keep them coming. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.
