25th October 2011 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

25th October 2011 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Both Grey Mist Mere and the large lake at Sandiway received a stocking of quality VS Fishery bred carp on Monday. Twenty mainly mid and upper doubles plus a few smaller fish went into the Mist as part of an ongoing program to replace the eighty or so fish that have simply succumbed to old age over the past two years; eleven went into Sandiway.  Pictures and full details will be posted in the member's area on our website or available from HQ.

Paul Floyd put his secret mix home-made boilies through their paces last week on the River Ribble to good effect. They accounted for barbel of 6lbs, 9-7-0, 9-12-0, topped by a specimen of 10-3-0. He also had some quality dace and two sea-trout of 1.5lbs apiece that also surprisingly homed in on his boilie concoction.
A few small pike to 8lbs or so have been caught on the Mersey near Grey Mist Mere to legered dead bait. Similarly the Bridgewater Canal has produced a few of these toothy predators but nothing of any outstanding size with Tim Poulter reporting a nice looking fish taken on smelt from Statham area. Bailiff Mike Burdock visited Wide Hole and had 5 pike to 13lbs on herring. Sunday sees the start of a completely new pike match series which kicks off on Grey Mist Mere. The fishery is closed for the duration of the match.
Mersey match organiser Bob Campbell religiously sends me the results every week with the occasional comment attached, but to read the words 'where's our fish gone?' was a definite attention grabber. Following weeks when decent weights of either bream or roach and perch nets battled it out for supremacy on this occasion it was as though the fish had simply vanished. On a seemingly barren river anglers failed even break the 2lbs barrier and winner Neil Davies needed only 1-10-0 of small roach taken on pole and maggot to take the main prize money.
Disabled and over 60's match organiser who wasn't too far out of the money this week has asked me to draw attention to the change of draw venue for this popular weekly event to the Star Inn, Stage Lane, Statham.  The weights this week fared a lot better than those of the Mersey with winner Lennie Dutton putting a nice mixed catch of skimmers and roach on the scales for exactly 6lbs followed by local ace Jimmy Byrne on 4-11-0. Pole fished caster or punched bread was the order of the day with the former accounting for a better stamp of roach.
Please keep sending me your catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for 2011 subscriptions, new memberships, and any queries.
