15th March 2011 Guardian Notes

15th March 2011 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

The second week in a row and the Dee is in the news, not grayling this time, but a massive barbel of 13-8-0 taken from our stretch just two days before the end of the coarse fish close season by member Gordon Ashton. The specimen was weighed and witnessed by our bailiff Mike Lewis and is possibly the biggest from the river this past season.

The icing on the cake as far as Gordon is concerned is that he was using his favourite vintage tackle comprising of a Rapidex centre pin reel matched to a Ray Walton 1.5 TC rod and 10lbs main line. The fish was tempted on low oil pellets. Not one to pre-judge the issue but I think it is a safe bet that he could very well be in line to win our 'Fish of the Month' competition.

On Sunday Craig Richie had an impressive win in our Warrington Winter League series held on the Macclesfield Canal at Congleton with 8-13-0 of perch taken on worm, which included a 3lbs tench. Runner up Pete Critchley fished a similar method and included a perch of 2-9-0 in his 6-11-0. By contrast Harry Morris fished punched bread for an all skimmer bream net of 6-4-6.

Our Mersey 'Christmas Fur & Feather' match was finally fished on Sunday after many unavoidable cancellations due to weather. It did not fish very well and winner Neil Buist needed only two bites and the resulting two bream for 5-0-0. Steve Featherstone was runner-up with 3-9-0. Still the sun was shining and the craic was good and everybody got a prize. Thanks to Helen and Dave for all their hard work in organising the event.

All our licences booklets have now been posted out to members so if you have not yet received yours then please let me know immediately. Also some of you may have noticed that on a number of them our printers have made an error collating the pages which means that some booklets are incomplete. If you require a correct version then please get in touch.

Please keep sending in your catch reports whatever they are, good, bad, or indifferent, as they are invaluable. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for 2011 night permits and new memberships.
