26th October 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian

At the time or writing we are anticipating a delivery of 28 carp which were ordered over twelve months ago intended to continue the stocking for Sandiway lakes and Grey Mist mere. Sadly subsequent issues with the old carp stock dying over the last twelve months at Grey Mist has meant that the Environment Agency have advised we adopt a precautionary approach and do not stock any further carp at this time. The situation is being monitored and if all goes well it will be reassessed next autumn whether it is an option then to introduce new stock already on order.

The good news is that we can still accommodate these carp and by the time you read this they should have been stocked into Sandiway Lakes. The delivery is to be eight C6 carp of approx 19 to 23lb each in weight and twenty C4's weighing between 7 and 11lb each. They will be photographed and weighed as usual before introduction to the lakes for our archive. They have been purchased from VS Fisheries in Sussex breeders of quality English carp who are well regarded in the industry and have the highest of standards. See www.vsfisheries.co.uk for more information and a look at the quality of the stock we are purchasing.

We had a really nice report from one of our members Nicholas Cole about the kindness of a fellow member a chap called Pete who not only passed on tips about fishing the Ribble but allowed Nicholas who had never caught a salmon himself to have a go at playing and feeling the power of the salmon he hooked which turned out to be a nice fifteen pounder.

The planned building work on the new poultry unit at Johnsons Farm in Wigan is now complete and members will not be able to fish the pool once the birds have been brought in approx mid November we will be retaining the water as a stock pond.

Depressing as it is winter is well on the way now and frosty mornings back on the agenda. This is the time when a great deal of the work around the fisheries has is done. If you can identify any particular jobs which need to be tackled or signage etc which needs replacing on a specific venue please get in touch and highlight it.

Even better if you are able to rectify a situation on a forthcoming trip  please let us know what is needed and we will arrange to supply the necessary materials or signs etc for the job. Several members have done this recently and it has proved a real help in getting some of the smaller outstanding jobs done.

Please continue sending in your catch reports as they are valuable to both your fellow members and your committee. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, night permits, and new memberships (these can also be purchased from any of our tackle shop outlets listed on our website www.warrington-anglers.org.uk
