24th March, 2009 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

On Friday last Ackers Pit benefited from a generous stocking of 1000 rudd and 1000 magnificent true crucian carp. Also on Tuesday of this week Woodshaw Reservoir received 1000 rudd, 200 crucian carp, and 100 chub. Johnsons Pool which has just benefited from new pegs all round saw its depleted fish stocks boosted with 300 crucians, 200 mirror carp, and 50 chub.  Similarly last but not least the Foster's Pool complex had 1000 rudd, 700 crucians, 300 mirror carp, and 50 chub spread between the four pools. The chub were stocked on two of them where sticklebacks have been a problem so these pests should be sorted out good style. All the fish were supplied by Will Fair from Hampton Springs.

A hardy band of anglers braved the gale force conditions for Mondays Disabled & Over 60's match on the Bridgewater Canal. The winner Ron Durr included a skimmer bream of 1.5lbs in an otherwise all roach catch. Our Vice President Geoff Brooks even dusted off his tackle to come a close second with a nice net of roach for 5-5-2. Over 4.5lbs was needed to get in the frame and the lowest catch was just over 2lbs. Bread and caster accounted for most fish but third placed Harry Morris included 5 skimmers in his net allegedly taken on pellet.

Members currently fly-fishing on the River Alyn must respect our boundaries as per the new map book that clearly shows members where they can fish and which definitely does not extend to the mill pool. This area is out of bounds under the EA local byelaws. Catches of small grayling are mainly taking nymphs.

To date all the lock changes have been completed on schedule and should all be sorted by weekend. Don't forget you can part exchange your old key at tackle shops on production of a 2009 paid up membership card for £2 otherwise a new key will cost you £5.

Whilst at Cicely Mill Pool on Tuesday afternoon I witnessed and photographed 16 year old Lewis Cookson landing a common carp which weighed in at 16-12-0. He caught it on a single 14mm spicy prawn boilie.

The Congleton Round Table Charity event on the Macclesfield canal threw up the top three weights to just over 9lbs from our stretch at Congleton basin. If you fancy some action yourself this weekend there is a Warrington Squad Fund match on Sunday meet 9am at McDonalds. Book on with Helen 01925 635486 or Craig 07984 859701.

Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open on Friday evening as usual between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
