3rd February, 2009 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

After having to contend with second place on last weeks Trent & Mersey match Kev Green showed that this was only a temporary lapse by taking first place on the same venue on Sunday. He had an all roach catch for 3-6-2 but Mick Cullen who beat him twice the previous week must have thought he had a bye as he failed to show! Man of the match must go to junior member Jack Bellis who pitted himself against some top notch senior anglers to take fourth place. In the future he could well be set to join an elite group of Warrington AA ex juniors who have fished for their country. Roach made up the majority of catches taken on punch bread or pinkie.

On the Bridgewater Canal a few small pike around five or six pounds are reported from the Agden area, best fish was 12-8-0 caught by Dan Taylor on legered sprat. Otherwise sport is not at its best and only the hardiest of anglers are venturing out.

The National Federation of Anglers (NW) which is still operating under this banner until the Angling Trust assesses the regional re-organisation is to run a series of qualifiers for inclusion into the disabled match team that will represent the region in the national championships. The qualifier dates are, 26th Feb, 5th, 12th, and 19th March which are to be held at Partridge Lakes, Culcheth, Warrington. The matches are point based with the best 3 out of 4 results to count. They are open to individual members of the Angling Trust or like ourselves members of clubs who are. Further details from John Moore (NFA Regional/ Angling Trust Officer for Disabled Tel 01204 412397).

There is no Mersey match this weekend as water conditions could be horrendous with snow melt water from the upper reaches. Match organiser Bob Campbell will assess the situation for the following weeks and may transfer some events to Appleton Reservoir.

Members are reminded that security on our car parks is paramount and any person found leaving a gate open will definitely lose their Warrington license.

Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open on Friday evening as usual between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
