10th February, 2009 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Taking into consideration the past weeks weather conditions it was a forgone conclusion that angling would be effected and hard to say the very least. So it was no surprise that our Sunday event on the Bridgewater Canal at Broadheath was won with low weights, however small roach obliged and Andy Caddick and Graham Belton took joint first place with 2-1-0. Junior member Jack Bellis showed consistency and took 4th place, once again causing more experienced anglers to 'look over their shoulder'.

On the Disabled & Over 60's match organizer John Dagnall was hard pressed to find anywhere that was free of ice and settled on Hough's Bridge complete with drifting ice flows. It brought back memories of one of our members who claimed to have seen a penguin on the canal during similar conditions. Harry Morris only needed just under 1lb of roach caught on punch bread to take first place. Perch taken on chopped worm made up most other equally dismal weights.

Work has now started on the pathways at Phoenix Park Lake and there may be some disruption to anglers. Ongoing peg construction will be resumed presently. We intend to hold a number of taster days on the venue during 2009.

The River Dane is still producing a few chub and odd grayling are being taken on maggot feeder. Our bailiff Ron Williams witnessed one anonymous member from Macclesfield who had sneaked a 'snow day' from work catch two chub over 4lbs and a good number of grayling. However most anglers really struggled for bites and many couldn't reach the car park over the frozen track last weekend.

Ithells Farm Bridge over the River Alyn has been damaged in recent floods and is currently closed until repairs are completed. Members wishing to cross the river can do so at Holt Road Bridge. A few small grayling have been reported taken on nymphs.

Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open on Friday evening as usual between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
