18th November Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

John Conway had a pleasant surprise last Friday whilst chubbing on our Hurst Green stretch of the Ribble. The session started with a very nice late autumn barbel of 11lb-14oz followed by a smaller one and 4 chub the best being 4lb-14oz. Although this stretch is mainly noted for its quality chub occasionally the odd quality barbel also puts in an appearance. With river temperatures now dropping into single figures its pays to be on your toes for those flood pulse that push up the water temperature a couple of degrees.

In Saturday's local winter league on the `Cutanic' stretch of the Bridgewater canal Clampits team man John Dagnall showed the way, in a close match where small fish were the order of the day his catch of small roach and skimmers all taken on bread and caster took gave him the first place honors six ounces clear of the next best weight of Kevin Green.

Member Chris Jefferies had his first trip out to Grey Mist since the birth of his daughter Paige

On Thursday and was rewarded by catching one of the biggest and one of the smallest carp in the lake a common of 6lb and a mirror of 25lb both on Nash scopex squid liver boilies.

As a follow on from last week Ernie Hutchinson and Dickie Wernham have been back to Worthington lakes to try out the one they missed last time. The deepest lake of the three Worthington didn't disappoint and 40lb+ bags of roach and bream on waggler and caster were the result. As their good deed for the day they were also able to put another angler right on the pegs they fished last week he had a good catch too. Mine is to point out that a trolley or barrow is

A good plan!

I must thank also the members of the Pike Anglers club for again providing their `PAC on tour day' last Sunday lots of anglers turned up and got the benefit of their coaching and experience sadly the pike didn't oblige so enthusiastically on the day and only three jacks put in an appearance this is an excellent liaison and one which we are very pleased to be able to facilitate to enable new pike anglers to improve their skills.

The new unified governing body for angling The Angling Trust is poised to take over the reins from the NFA, NFSA, SAA, ACA and NAFAC bringing all aspects of our very diverse sport/pastime together as well as commercial and trade interests it will be the most important thing to happen in angling for decades if all goes to plan this will happen in January.

I have already read and heard `well I will wait and see what's in it for me before I join' well if you do you will get just what you deserve a big fat gap where the governing body and the protection of our sport used to be there will be no one to fight our corner don't be misled into thinking the Environment Agency will take its place they won't its not their job. Don't just leave it to the responsible clubs who have traditionally paid the lions share for the work of the various organisations, Warrington AA for instance is currently a member of all except the NFSA but it is not going to be like that anymore.

Every individual angler, club, Commercial fishery, and tackle shop in fact every business built on angling needs to contribute. There is strength in numbers and a professional amalgam of all the previously diverse and well meaning organisations can if we all put our money where our mouths are `Move Mountains'.
It is vital that every single one of us who has ever enjoyed fishing supports the Angling Trust to protect not just our sport but our right to enjoy out sport for ourselves and future generations. All the more important therefore that we all understand and tolerate the very different aspects of what we do.
Angling has and always will be all things to all men. In the past we have argued amongst ourselves, been territorial about the merits of coarse, sea or game fishing, match fishing or specimen fishing well now it is and should be a thing of the past. We are all `pleasure' anglers it is the only truly inclusive sport that I can think of and its time we all celebrated the fact. I don't like everything that every angler does but I for one am very proud of what angling achieves every single day for all kinds of different people.
Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
