14th August 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

!4th August 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Our smaller 17.5acre lake at Sandiway will forever be engraved the memory of Millie Wailes aged 6 years who on Sunday fishing with her dad Darren clocked up her first ever twenty. The memorable mirror was marginally over the magical 20lbs which is the target for most budding carp anglers, and some with a great deal more bankside hours under their belts. The question is where will Millie go from here…watch this space.

There is no doubt that due to the efforts of our team of volunteers who look after Woodshaw Reservoir visiting members cannot fail to be suitably impressed with this Association owned fishery. Dave Gardner and his fishing mate ken Hewitt are definitely among them as they returned this past week to enjoy a cracking mornings fishing in pleasant surroundings. Ken's tally was 18 perch 4oz to 1.5lbs, a bream, and a half dozen or so roach taken mostly on maggot. Dave had 30 perch of the same stamp, 2 crucians the best a shade over 2lb, chub, and a bream taken on maggot, meat, and strangest of all blackberry.

Our Saturday Mersey Series this week fished again at Kingsway Allotments saw Martin Kettle really draw on past match winning methods to fish a whip to hand loose-feeding maggots to win with a weight of 14-2-5. Martin added a bonus bream of 6lbs nice to his mixed net of roach and perch. Second placed Chris Wray by contrast fished the more usual Mersey method of a groundbait feeder and maggots for 14-8-0 which included bream of 6lbs and 4lbs plus roach and perch.

Weights got even better the following day on our Rod Only Match at Mersey Walk when Steve Brooks fished my favourite method, the stick-float to win with 17-4-0 made up of roach, perch, and skimmers taken on maggot. Jimmy Byrne was the runner-up with 15-9-0 and a similar mix of fish taken on groundbait feeder and maggot. As you can see from the weekends results you can frame with almost any method which makes the river as fair avenue as you can get.

Our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match which this week was fished on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Billinge. Jimmy Byrne put together a net of roach and perch for a winning weight of 8-3-4. He fished the pole at 11metres alternating between pinkie and caster for better stamp of fish. Rod Frazer was second with 7-6-8.

Good news this week thanks to the rain the Bridgewater Canal levels are back almost to normal which meant that the feed from the canal to Ackers Pit is flowing again. Thanks to the guys who manned the pump in the interim to keep fresh water going into Ackers. Cicily Mill Pool still remains closed and we are looking at High Legh fishery which may be closed if there is no improvement in its algae problem.

Your catch reports are always welcome, but more important, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
