29th May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

27th May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

This past week fish have been busy spawning at many of our fisheries and consequently sport has been generally slow. But on the River Dee our bailiff tells me that the water conditions couldn't be better at Almere Ferry for salmon on the fly. Similarly good numbers of sea-trout to 3lbs are showing on the Wyre and salmon around 9lbs have been reported. This latter small river is often overshadowed by The Ribble but it is definitely worth a visit.

Wigan waters remain in the spotlight again this week with a report from Mark Carter on Tuesday who had a good catch of crucian carp and roach from Mowpin Pool which is part of our Forsters Pools mini-complex at Wigan. Mark fished the pole at 8metres and fed hemp with red maggot on the hook for a 30lbs plus net of fish. Meanwhile on the same day at Woodshaw Reservoir Dave Kenyon fished the pole and banded halibut pellet at 11 metres to take fifteen tench and crucians with the latter going up to 3lbs.

Ian and Lee Eccleston enjoyed last week exploring our waters and were especially impressed with The Mount which was their first visit to the fishery. Ian had set up one rod and was deciding where to place the second when the first roared off resulting in a tench around 4lbs. Within minutes Lee's rod went and she was into a carp which at 6-10-0 beat her previous PB. Two further carp were landed at 8-14-0 and 9-2-0 but both lost a couple each in snags. They returned on Friday and Lee had several carp plus a surprise bream 6-8-0 whilst her husband Ian managed a fish of 10-6-0.

I am pleased to have received a few reports on High Legh fishery where the carp have been featuring in catches. Definitely good news is that shoals of roach are showing despite the fact that as yet following the winter fish kill none have been stocked. Tench and crucians will be stocked in due course.

Due to the hot weather and the fact that match organiser John Dagnall did not fancy giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to any of the regulars at our Disabled & Over 60's match it was moved into the shade on the dead length. Although weights suffered it was a close match won by Lenny Dutton with 2-13-6 followed by Chris Grehan on 2-10-4.

The Junior Summer Series saw Lewis Wightman fishing an end peg hook a bonus bream to give him the top spot with 3-6-14 whilst Adam Harman on the opposite end peg came in second with 2-12-14. The Intermediate match was won by Tom Oliver with the low weight of 13-8.

22nd May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

22nd May 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Woodshaw Reservoir is really on form with quality crucians, roach, and occasional bream to 3lbs featuring in most catches. This past week several members have took my advice and visited this small Association owned fishery for the first time; Ian Brownlea fished pole and paste at nine metres and caught eleven crucians and three bream, he reckons that he will be making a return trip sometime soon.

Graham Heaton sent me some cracking pictures of two mirror carp he caught from Grey Mist Mere last week weighing in at 19-0-6 and 23-10-0. Steve Broadhurst reports a mid-week catch of nineteen tench ranging from around 3lbs to the largest weighed at 6-12-0. All took mini-boilies using a PVA bag to keep the free offerings in a tight area.

Patrick Tierney enjoyed a productive early morning pole session at Rixton Claypits when he had four bream around 3lbs, four real slabs around 9lbs, plus three tench with the best going to an estimated 9lbs. All were taken at 9metres feeding micro-pellet and fishing red maggot over the top in three and half hours.

The Mount is still producing plenty of action to all methods, Steve Morrison even took a good double figure carp whilst fly fishing. I can guarantee it put a greater bend in his rod than the trout he usually catches. The capture was witnessed by 'Mount devote' Neil Plunkett who described the fly which was tied from dear fur as a floating dog biscuit imitation. Neil himself had a good session landing five carp with almost as many slipping the hook plus a solitary bream of 4lbs.

John Ainsworth fished Ackers Pit for the first time on Thursday and was kept busy with chunky roach and rudd which seem to be really doing well, four tench, and two carp which led him a merry dance with his 4's elastic being stretched to the absolute limit. He pole-fished two swims at 12metres with maggot and red coloured corn.

The Disabled & Over 60's match was won by match organiser John Dagnall who's net of bread and caster caught skimmers and roach for 3-3-10 rocketed him from zero to hero. I believe there is a clamour now from regulars to get their hands on a copy of the winning pole rig. Dave Blease could only manage runner up spot with 2-13-0 after losing some decent fish at the net.

Our Junior and Intermediate Summer Series saw junior member Adam Harman an easy winner with 24-0-0 whilst the Intermediate match was won with an identical weight by Jack Bellis followed closely by Ryan Brown on 23-10-0.
