9th June 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Eight year old Charlotte Bather has been accompanying her Dad Steve to our Offas Dyke fishery on a regular basis where they have had some nice catches of roach and perch on pole and maggot. Last Saturday though she tried a change of tactics to method feeder and entice 10mm pop ups which bagged a very nice 8lb common carp her new pb needless to say one very happy young lady.

Our junior Sqad at Woodshaw Wigan have been representing WAA over the last few weeks in the Gtr Manchester CADG spring series although some of the team are very young only 9 and 10 years old they still took everything in their stride. Including being a man down in one match and some dire weather conditions to finished a very creditable second overall. Team Coach Bob Morris is delighted with their commitment and perseverance. Big thank you to Bob, his helpers and the parents who got them to the matches.

Dave Walls reported a great morning on Woodshaw Reservoir when he caught crucian carp to 2lb, tench and bream to 3lb and loads of 2 to 3 oz roach and skimmers all caught alternating between corn and maggot because he left his pellets, the usual bait of choice at Woodshaw, at home.

Mike Dench had a trip to the Ribble at the weekend and it is safe to say the chub and barbel are getting the spawning out of the way before the rivers open for coarse fishing next Tuesday. He filmed shoals busy spawning in the shallow water hopefully it will be ideal conditions and a good year for both.

Just a couple of reminders dogs are not allowed on our waters, one rod on Cicily mill pool, two rods not three on small Sandiway lake until October. It is one of the conditions of membership that members acquaint themselves with the rules.

If you are intending to night fish any of the waters It is a good idea to book on before you leave home, if you get to a fishery and set up then ring you might find it is already booked up for that night. So best to be sure of a place before you travel to the venue.

Please note Challinor's Sports LTD has not been a WAA depot since last year when Beverly and Neil retired. The new owner decided not to apply to be a depot so please don't go in expecting to pay subs then giving him 'grief'. Subs can be paid at all the current depots listed in the licence, HQ Parker Street and by post.

2nd June 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

The Mount is rarely out of the news lately as the low water table conditions have more or less created three pools with each capable of providing excellent sport. It appears as the water levels dropped the tench headed for the heavier weeded small pools and with this information this is where Eddie Simonds set up for his session. He started off with a small PVA bags filled with micro pellets and crushed halibuts with a small pop-up on the hook and after several casts decided it was time for a brew. Well, it wasn't to be as as he unscrewed the flask it was fish on, but he lost the first two fish. A change of hook length put Eddie back in charge and he ended his session with fourteen fish, the largest were like peas in a pod at 6-2 -0 apiece. This fishery is not all tench and carp by any means as it is also producing excellent roach sport on pole or wagger tactics from the main larger pool along with some quality bream. There are no special baits needed just a pint of maggots. I just wonder if anyone has tried hemp or tares because I reckon if the weather warms up we could see some really hectic sessions. Anyone up for trying it let me know how you get on.

A trip to Rixton Claypits by member Trevor Green last week saw him enjoy according to him, "my best ever days fishing" when using a small groundbait feeder set-up and double maggot on the hook he literally had the bream queuing up to suck up his offerings. Trevor ran out of bait but not before his tally was forty eight fish, mainly bream plus a few roach and three tench. Now I couldn't tell anyone how many fish I had caught once past a dozen if my life depended on it but Trev swears by his counter.

Around our lakes and waters fish are at this time heavy with spawn and getting ready for their annual breeding antics. Whilst I wouldn't expect any of our members to target fish in these circumstances our bailiffs will be closing pegs or areas at short notice in the interests of fish welfare which should always be foremost in our minds.

The river Alyn is proving popular with game anglers but mainly small trout and grayling reported. If any member has found a wildlife camera on the river in the Fagl Lane area please get in touch with me.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match this week saw Alan Brown who has rarely been out of the frame of late take a clear win with an all roach catch taken on the pole and punch bread for 3-5-2. Ronnie Durr was in the runner-up spot two pounds adrift of the winner with 1-3-12. This time of the year fish are generally congregated near to spawning areas so the low weights are no surprise.
