3rd May 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

3rd May 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Neil Plunkett decided to give the Mount a go on Tuesday, probably his first visit to the venue in a couple of years. Setting up with a method feeder using meat, corn and pellet accounted for a clonking roach Neil reckons must have been over 2lbs, three other sizeable roach, a nice bream, and five carp.  Two of the carp were big doubles, the first being the largest fish he had landed this year. He doesn't usually weigh fish and true to form the batteries in the scales were dead anyway so he will never know its weight. It was however a two-handed job to lift it back in.  Neil reckons that this fishery is a must venue for anyone needing a bit of a confidence boost :-) This would probably be seconded by member George Kelly who landed a decent carp during his Saturday session.

Andy Corr and his mate enjoyed a change of venue this week on our Wide Hole Fishery at Poynton where their pole and chopped worm and caster accounted for a decent catch of bream for them both. This post caused a bit of dissent on our members group but with obviously no fish over 2.5lbs it was not in breach of any rules. Anyway Andy & Co many thanks for sharing your catch information with fellow members.

Bream are definitely on the feed at Rixton Claypits with members Graham Oakes and Paul Delahaye reporting catches this week. Paul lost what he thought was more than likely a big carp. Worth a visit.

Simon Oldfield did a few hours stalking at Appleton Reservoir this past week. Presenting freelined bread in the margins accounted for a chunky little mirror.

Joe Grier was happy with the mirror carp he caught from Grey Mist on Saturday evening which he landed after a tussle on tackle set-up for tench.

Our popular Monday Disabled & Over 60's Match was fished this week on our Association owned Woodshaw Reservoir. As the regulars were waiting to start the draw two pleasure anglers appeared. As always, our local Wigan fisheries team leader Trevor Gray sorted them out with two decent pegs. One of the pair John Rostron asked if he could fish the match but when he was told it was a fiver pools, he said he would need to meet his wife to pick up the money. Jimmy reserved him peg 13 and as the regulars were settling in their swims John appeared with his pools money. Well as it turned out 13 was his lucky number, fishing the pole with red maggot over micro-pellets John landed three crucians and three skimmer bream for a winning weight of 11-2-0. Ray Boden on the adjacent peg was the runner-up with a catch of two crucians, skimmers, and roach for 8-13-0. Twenty-one anglers turned out.

Our WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT remains closed on Friday evenings but members can simply post to this address or put their membership book or request in an envelope with their payment and a stamped addressed envelope, through our HQ door at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT where mail is collected and dealt with most days. Alternatively, you can post to Warrington Anglers Association PO. Box 71, Warrington WA1 1LR where mail is collected weekly.

There haven't been many catch reports from members this week, so I really would welcome info of your visits to any of our fisheries, many members rely on them as markers for their visits to the bankside. Email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238
