21st September 2021 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

21st September 2021 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Callum White and his dad Michael have been having some great success with perch on the Bridgewater Canal at the Manchester end. Callum aged 9years despite being only recently introduced to our sport has been catching some impressive specimens on soft plastic lures.

And another youngster, Olive James aged 4years has been introduced to our sport this week by her dad, Martin who took her to the Bridgewater at Grappenhall for her first taste of angling. She caught two roach on bread-punch followed by four perch on worm.

Anthony Rough reports just having returned from his annual trip to our stretch of the river at Hay-on- Wye. The river was running slow and clear with fishing on the first day hard with only one barbel and six chub. Fishing the same swim on the second day was much better with five barbel to 5lbs, some good-sized chub, plus smaller ones. Anthony fished a groundbait feeder on both days with meat or pellet hookbait. His only problem was with a swan that he befriended which kept pecking him until he fed it which as he loves nature was one of the highlights of the trip.

Ted Small after reading members catch reports in my column was spurred on to try the Weaver Navigation for the first time this year. He had the place to himself and was soon into fish with plenty of bites from roach, perch, and a few skimmers until eventually he was plagued by gudgeon. All were caught on red maggot and waggler.

Our stretch of the Vyrnwy at Llanymynech seems to be attracting the attention of members with Chris Henstone this week reporting a couple of hours trotting with a centre-pin and maggot for a bite every cast. Lots of chub, dace, roach, and bleak. Worth a visit.

The Sunday Mersey Match Series was fished on the Mersey Walk stretch of the river and saw Ray Boden as the clear winner with a healthy margin over second placed Harry Billing. Ray fished short pole and maggot for a mixed net of roach and perch for a weight of 14-3-0. Harry with the same mix of fish weighed-in 10-7-0 taken on the pole using maggot and pinkie. Twenty anglers fished.

Our Disabled & Over 60's Monday match was fished this week on the Bridgewater Canal at Stage Lane. It turned out to be a low weight event which saw match organiser Jimmy Byrne as the winner with an all roach catch weighing 4-11-0 taken on pole and bread with some better stamp fish on caster. Terry Dunn was the runner-up with 3-0-0 of roach on maggot. Fourteen anglers fished.
