15th September 2020 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
Terry Dunn enjoyed a fly-fishing session on the River Alyn on Wednesday where he caught seven grayling and six trout. A couple of the Grayling were over a pound with good numbers of fish seen in the deeper runs. The trout included fish of 2lbs and the biggest just under 3lbs. All were taken on 'the black spider'. He even had a bite from a passing cocker spaniel which he passed off until he waded into the river and ended up with a wet leg😊
New member Ed Prior was dropped off by his wife at our Wide Hole Fishery at Poynton for his first visit to the water. Ed didn't know what to expect from this much underused fishery which is connected to the Macclesfield Canal. He set up a waggler and loose-feeding maggot had his first bite and landed a small roach after about half an hour. This was followed by a dozen others before he struck into a better fish, a bream around 2lbs. In the next three hours he had landed eight others plus roach before it was time to call it a day.
Our Sunday Mersey Pairs Match which is a normal match plus a secret pairs event where nobody has a clue who is their partner as this is drawn separately. It was fished at Mersey Walk and fished downstream of peg 34. Ray Boden was the clear winner of the individual match with a cracking weight of 14-9-0 made up of skimmers, roach, and perch. Bob Campbell took second place with a similar net for 10-13-0. The secret pairs win went to Ray Boden and Jeff Shaw who added 7-11-0 to Ray's weight for a total of 22-4-0. Ade Green and angling legend Kevin Ashurst were runners-up with their respective weights of 8-9-0 and 5-13-0 and a total of 14-6-0.
This week our Disabled & Over 60's Monday match on the Bridgewater Canal at Daresbury Labs was won by Neil Buist fishing maggot and pinkie with a weight of 5-12-0 made up of a skimmer, small roach and perch, plus a bonus 2lbs bream. George Barber aka 'The Breadman' fishing on home ground took second place with a skimmer and roach catch taken on 'the white stuff' for 5-9-0. Nineteen fished.
Last Thursday thieves stole fishing tackle from a member's car that was parked in his drive opposite the Police Station in Birchwood. It had taken him years to get it together and included a Shimano Reel bought for him in the USA by a friend, bivvy chair, camera, one rod protrudes 6" out of the top of the rod bag. Bag 5' rod 12', (6ft broken down). He has asked if anyone hears of someone selling a job lot of tackle if they would ring me at the number below.
