23rd April 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
With record temperatures over the Easter holiday it was equally pleasant to catch a few unseasonal rays of sunshine as well as fish. Mike Pritchard enjoyed a short stint at Ackers Pit on Saturday where he started his session with waggler fished red maggot and pinkie, soon changing to caster for some better stamp fish. He ended up with around thirty roach to 1lb plus a brace of rudd around eight to ten ounces.
Anthony Rough spent four hours of Good Friday morning on The Mount at Buckley. Fishing a waggler and feeding maggots, with a single maggot on the hook and after a steady start the action picked up with a bite almost ever cast. Anthony ended the session with 15lb of roach the best a few ounces short of 2lb. He reckoned it was good news that there appeared to be lots of fish showing from the recent stocking and he missed a lot more bites than he hit! Anthony was back at the venue again on Tuesday only this time he decided on the pole at 9metres as his preferred method of attack. Fishing up in the water at 3ft depth his float didn't stop going under all day. A lucky break came when he tangled his rig which gave him a chance to eat his sandwiches.
Philip Brown escaped from Grey Mist to Rixton Claypits on Sunday and enjoyed a good bream session with not a tench in sight. He ended up with twelve to fourteen slabs and only finished fishing when he ran out of groundbait.
But the Mist proved irresistible to returning member Bill Stanley who christened his new membership after a thirty-year absence with a PB tench of 5-12-0 and followed this up with a 6-10-0 specimen. A smaller one of 4-8-0 followed but then his PB went again for the third time with a fish of 7-6-0. He was very appreciative of fellow anglers who kindly put him on the right method and caught all his fish on maggot. Bill commented, "All in all a spectacular introduction to WAA."
Tom Fahey also had a half-decent day on Grey Mist but unfortunately he had to cut the session short when his bed-chair collapsed and he injured his back. But not before catching a 21-3-0 mirror topped by another of 26-4-0 plus a tench just under 7lb. All caught on Sticky Baits Krill boilies.
Our Disabled & Over 60's match was on our Woodshaw Reservoir Fishery at Wigan on Monday where in a very close match with only a single fish between the first three anglers Jimmy Byrne ended up the eventual winner with a catch of skimmers and crucians for a weight of 12-2-11. Alan Pendlebury took second place with a similar catch with 11-12-15.
