27th March 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

27th March, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Neil Plunkett managed a nice tench of around 6.5lbs from a session on Grey Mist last week and was broken off by a couple of bigger fish. On Wednesday he decided to give Rixton a go as the 'mini beast from the east' had subsided. It was very frosty so he didn't hold out too much hope for a red-letter day but undeterred Neil fished for a while on the carpark side of the lake but with no action set off on a trek to the far side despite the muddy conditions. It turned out to be a good move as he ended his session with three decent bream all over 3lbs and two nice tench around the 4-5 lb mark. To quote Neil, "A long arduous day but well worth it".

Note this one….if any member is interested in having their say on the Coarse Fish Close Season on Rivers, predation, or any other priorities then you should attend the Angling Trust North West Fisheries Forum where they are asking for anglers ideas and opinions. It is on Wednesday the 18th April 2018 at Croft Memorial Hall, 5, Mustard Lane Croft, Warrington WA3 7BQ. It is free to attend with tea & coffee served from 6-40pm and meeting begins at 7pm. This is your chance to make your voice heard.

Thankfully there was a definite improvement in weights on Monday at our Disabled & Over 60's match on the Bridgewater Canal that was fished at Delph Lane, Keckwick. Winner Jimmy Byrne caught fifty small roach for a weight of 2-5-8 followed in second place by Ron Durr with 1-9-12. Pole tactics with bread punch or pinkie was the winning method. Catches though still fall short of a decade or so past before increased numbers of cormorants homed in on our fish stocks.

Thanks to those members who attended our AGM on Thursday, also to the Dalton who supplied the buffet, and especially to Grappenhall Ex-Serviceman's Club for the use once again of their excellent facilities.

Don't forget to send me your catch reports which are always welcome, but more so, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
