30th January 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

30th January, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Bailiff, Philip Brown caught his first tench of 2018, a five-pounder taken on a small feeder and double maggot on a size 14's hook. He was fishing twenty yards out on Grey Mist Mere on Wednesday and followed this up by a cracker that went to just over 8lbs. Those bronze beauties look like they are waking up!

Ian Bowers must have read my mind as last week I visited Phoenix Park Lake checking on pegs and despite a lot of weed I really fancied a go. I fully intended to get some bait but was side-tracked by other fishery issues elsewhere and didn't make it. Well, Ian did and fished halfway along on the canal side with a small ground bait feeder and maggot but the tip was motionless. He was about to call it a day after a bite-less hour and a half when the tip moved and a chunky roach lay in the net. Ian ended up with a dozen roach and two skimmers.

Warrington Anglers match results this week kicked off with our Sunday Mersey Series where Jimmy Byrne needed only a weight of 1-4-10 made up of ten small roach caught on ground bait feeder and maggot. In joint second were Norman Gannon and Al Morris with 0-10-14.

The weights thankfully improved at our Disabled & Over 60's match held between Hough's and Walton Bridges on the Bridgewater Canal. George Hollis weighed in a roach and perch catch for 2-6-14 taken on punched bread and pinkie. George Barber fished bread punch to take second place with 2-1-9. There was a lot of pike activity reported along the match length.

Any reports always more than welcome, including 'humorous bankside happenings' send to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
