5th May 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

5th May 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

New member Alan Rogerson visited Fosters Pools for the first time on Friday and fishing the larger lake to the right hand side of the entrance gate was pleasantly surprised when his first cast produced a lively mirror carp of around 7lbs which took his waggler fished single maggot bait. He soon followed this with three chub, a string of roach, topped off with a last cast carp of about 8lbs. He loose-fed maggots and set up with a small waggler and 20's hook to 3lbs hook-length. Happy days, but if sessions were always that easy there would be no challenge which is a major element to our sport of angling.

Sandiway Small Lake is still producing good sport with tench but very little is being reported from the large lake although it is as popular with members as ever. Either these members simply love the solitude and the challenges of a 'hard water' or they are keeping catches to themselves which is counterproductive as reports play a large part in future stocking of fisheries.

Our Disabled & Over 60's Bank Holiday Special match fished at Acton Grange Bridge saw a small improvement in weights and saw Alan Brown lead the field with 3-12-4 of roach and skimmers taken on pole and bread punch. Not too far behind fishing the same method was veteran angler and 'bread specialist' George Barber with 3-1-8.

There will be some inconvenience on some pegs to anglers at Cicily Mill Pool this week or so whilst the far pegs on the right bank are being refurbished. Please note the walkway to a peg on the left side of the car park was dismantled to remove any access for members. Please keep an eye out for set lines as a few have been recently discovered. If found leave in situ but report the location and find immediately to the secretary.

Please email me your catch reports to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or you can ring me on 01928 716238. Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open on Friday between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, and any queries.
