12th May 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Mike Peers from Conway was more than happy with his trip on Saturday to The Mount when he ended his session in good style with easily the best fish of the day a superb common which weighed 20-12-0 witnessed by our bailiff Brian Jones. This fishery although it holds no thirty's is the place to go to recover from a bad session elsewhere or simply if you just like catching decent numbers of fish.
Rhys Sweeney also fished the mount at Buckley last week and caught some nice roach and perch along with four tench to 4lbs and one mirror carp around the 7lb mark. As he caught his first fish the bailiff appeared commenting, "catching just one fish can spoil a good blank" and sport continued from there on in. Rhys fished the pole using maggot although after being smashed by a carp he did change mid-session to a margin master pole expecting more of the same but had to settle for tench. The carp came near the end of the session on a feeder rod using small 8mm halibut pellets. He will soon be making a return visit for more action.
And more of The Mount as Neil Plunkett enjoyed another good days sport on Thursday despite the rain catching ten carp, two tench and a bream but lost a few other carp including the biggest one of the day right at the net. As Neil stated, "These things are sent to remind us we are not as good as we'd like to think we are." J He fished a Korum Dura method feeder with a mix of ordinary and krill micro pellets and punched Spam on a 3 inch hook link. One of his lost fish tangled in another anglers lost tackle that Neil eventually managed to retrieve; a nasty bolt rig with a heavy weight but luckily the fish must have eventually snapped the heavy line. There is no room in our sport for such dangerous rigs as fish welfare comes first over catch at any cost.
Tim Slough and his 11years old son Sam recently enjoyed an afternoons session at Rixton Claypits where they shared a catch of fifteen bream between 1and 3lbs and a solitary tench of 3.5lbs. Tim reports that all the fish were in excellent condition with the bream showing spawning tubercles. Young Sam fished a groundbait feeder and mini tutti-fruiti boilies on the hook whilst his dad caught his fish on a pellet feeder with all fish coming in the last three hours of the session from close to the islands.
Ste Wharton fished at Sandiway last week with his mate Mick Cook and spent the first 24 hours on the big lake where he caught his first carp from this notoriously hard water, a mirror of 18lbs. They re-booked to the adjacent smaller (only 17.5 acres) fishery which resulted in an upsurge in sport with six carp to 19lbs, eight tench, and two bream. Mick went home with a sore neck as the best he could manage was to watch his mate who caught all the fish. Remember Mick revenge is sweet.
Our Disabled & Over 60's match was fished at Cross Cuts, Preston this week and no sooner had the 'all in' been shouted and anglers catching a few fish when the maintenance guys turned up to cut the grass. Lesser anglers would have packed up but these veterans are made of sterner stuff and carried on regardless as did the strimming and mowing operation. Jeff Clare won the match with a net of small skimmers for 2-12-4 followed by Alan Brown not far behind with 2-9-3. Although the weights were down due to the bankside disturbance there were some roach caught in the 5-7oz bracket.
