The smaller of our two Association-owned lakes at Sandiway at
17.5 acres was successfully stocked with 100 mainly mirror carp on Saturday
afternoon. The ten volunteers who turned up were kept busy photographing,
weighing, and carrying the stunning looking fish to the three waiting members
who came kitted up with chest waders. I think the latter possibly drew the
short straw but they were uncomplaining as they stood in the freezing water oblivious
to the numbing cold totally engrossed in ensuring all fish swam away safely.
The VS Fisheries bred carp ranged from around 6.5lbs to just over 8lbs and
should pack on weight in their new home. Full range of pictures will be on our
website.
Sunday saw an equally good turnout to the advertised working
party at Moore Quarry where the teams removed overgrown and self-seeded trees
to greatly improve access to fishing areas. Likewise the three members who are
qualified divers worked tirelessly all day removing underwater snags such as
sunken trees and rigs. It certainly was a cracking start and there is still a
long way to go but if anyone is interested there is another chance to get
involved on Sunday 2nd February. Meet 10am on car park.
Phil Hancock fished The Mount at Buckley on Thursday where
he used a small maggot feeder to tempt thirty to forty perch and roach. The
roach averaged 4ozs with a few around the pound mark but the best perch was
1.5lbs.
Another hard match
on the Mersey on Sunday where conditions were far from good, the river was
towing through, and a dirty brown in colour. The first three anglers finished
in exactly the same positions as they did last week, so it was Paul Harding
making it two wins in a row, with a weight of, 1-0-10 of small roach taken on a
groundbait feeder from peg 51. And so ended another forgettable session! Can it
really get any worse?
Our Monday Disabled & Over 60’s match on the Bridgewater
Canal at Houghs Bridge saw Lenny Dutton back in the frame with a mixed net for
3-10-0 followed by Bud Lea on 3-5-4.
Martin Griffiths has started a new series on a Saturday on
the Bridgewater and the first match on Saturday pegged in Lymm Village started
off with a string of cracking winter roach catches. Young rod, Adam Harman put
his winning net of roach onto the scales to record 11-5-0 to see him with a
comfortable buffer of just over 2.5lbs over runner-up Phil Cross on 8-10-0.
Please keep those catch reports coming in as they are
invaluable to this column and fellow members planning fishing trips. Either

HQ 52, Parker Street is open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for
subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
