26th November 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

26th November 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Many thanks to all the volunteers that turned up on Friday to help at Warrington Anglers Association annual carp stocking program, so many in fact that regulars Steve Kemble and myself were relegated to numbering the fish and writing down the weights. Certainly no complaints there as a 'job swap' with those members who spent hours in freezing water lovingly releasing the fish was a welcome change.

There were lots of oohs and aahs as the fantastic VS Fisheries carp were released into their new homes at Sandiway Lakes where 45xC4's went into the 17.5acre fishery and 9xC6's into the main 53 acre specimen lake. It was the turn of Moore Quarry next and again the welcoming committee took over ferrying the 15 C5 fish after weighing to our by now freezing chest wader wearing water babies for release to the murky depths and a new life. Grey Mist Mere followed suit with a 25 C5 introduction

For the record the C4's varied from 8 to over 10lbs, C5's 13.5 to 15.5lbs, and the C6's saw 3 fish averaging 18.5 with 6 around 20.5lbs. These fish are ordered two years in advance with current orders in place until winter 2015. Our intrepid photographer worked overtime to upload pictures onto our Facebook page and our webmaster will shortly put them on our website.

A late report from Keith Sutton of an incredible catch of sixteen prime roach from the Mount three weeks ago taken on pole and pellet. In company with his young grandson who was fishing next to him they were both catching an endless stream of small perch and roach on 4mm offerings when Keith decided to step up to a banded 10mm  pellet hoping for a carp. His float dipped almost as it hit the water resulting in an awesome red finned beauty of just over 2lbs looking up at him from the folds of his landing net. This was followed by fifteen others with the best weighed at 2-14-0.

On the match scene weights plummeted following the heavy frosts with not a single angler breaking the 1lb barrier on our Disabled & Over 60's event held on Monday at Pickering Bridge. Keith Wernham took the winner's purse with 11-12 closely followed by match organiser John Dagnall on 11-4. For the record only small perch were caught with the exception of George Barber who snared a lonely roach. I must admit this area that many years ago was a prolific match venue has never recovered from a severe dredging operation and marginal weed removal operation at that time.

Our Mersey Series saw Manchester rod Karl Guy romp home to his first win in two years on the river with 4-14-4 which included a bonus bream and skimmers taken on a block end feeder and maggot. Ray Bowden was second with 2-9-4.

As the weather goes colder I would really appreciate any catch reports. These are invaluable to this column and fellow members planning fishing trips.
