9th July 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
The Challenge Shield held on the Mersey on Sunday produced low weights; however the good news is that the river is lifting with fry. And it gets even better as Bernard Anderson who set his sights on carp had a koi of 17lbs and a mirror about 10lbs but was pestered by bream. A change to lighter tackle and a change from boilie to maggot on the hook and a swimfeeder saw him catch twenty five averaging between 4 and 5lbs plus perch to 1.5lbs and a cracking dace, although his following two visits were less productive as the shoal had moved.
The working party on Sunday at Offa's Dyke Coarse Fishery saw eight members turn up and make a good start on the oldest of the pools. The weather wasn't ideal on what I think was the hottest day of the year but we all got stuck in removed lots of self seeded saplings with help from the farmer and his trusty Grey Fergie, pruned overgrown trees, strimmed pathways, and removed weed and obstructions.
There is still plenty to do before the pool is opened up to fishing so another working party is on again on Sunday meet 9am on car park. If you can bring gloves, and whatever tools you can lay your hands on such as loppers, handsaws, etc. Cold drinks (non-alcoholic) and sandwiches will be provided. Post code CH7 4LQ takes you just short of it but the entrance is by the permanent road narrows traffic lights, our blue WAA sign is on the entrance, just drive through to the car park 100yds on your left. Ask for Brian Jones on arrival.
David Robinson tried his hand on the Dee at Worthenbury but only managed a few trout trotting down with maggot and lost a decent sized grayling at the net. The water was low and clear with the bright conditions not conducive to bagging-up.
There has been a report on an opportunist tackle theft from Sandiway small lake where a rod bag containing spare rods, and a general 'bits' bag including membership cards was stolen from outside a bivvi. Neither the owner, his two mates close by, nor other members heard or saw anything untoward. None of the rods in use were touched.
A situation arose last weekend when members who booked on Sandiway small lake failed to turn up or cancel. This is thoughtlessness effectively denied fellow members the opportunity to fish. Be warned that the rules are quite clear and the committee can and will discontinue permits of offenders. The rules are in place to make it fair for all members.
Well done to our Warrington AA Woodshaw Team who came second in the Manchester CAGG team event and also gained first and runner up individual places.
