26th June 2012 WAA weekly press release

Phil Hancock started his weekend with a superb brace of tench from Grey Mist Mere weighing in at 7-14-0 and 7-12-0, almost like peas in a pod. Both fell to ledgered maggot. He followed this with a trip to Cicily Mill Pool where he fished a small waggler and corn for a good catch of crucians averaging 2lbs along roach and skimmers.
Bob Cole braved the high water conditions last week on the River Dee and managed to find a fishable back eddy where he was rewarded as he said "with the best three hours ever". Trotting maggot he had chub, dace, and roach, with his best chub weighing in at 5lbs.
High Legh Pools produced a mixed catch of mirror carp to 3lbs plus roach, and small tench for member Joe Barnes who fished double maggot on a small waggler. I had a walk around the fishery on Monday evening and was amazed at just how much the bushes had grown. It is definitely due for a good pruning along with the removal of bulrushes after the nesting season. We will be fitting a lock on the gate soon for the benefit of members' security and to keep out poachers.
Rixton Claypits are still producing decent catches of tench which are in fine fettle and giving members a run for their money along with either a decent stretch to their elastic or bend in their rod depending on their chosen method. No carp reports to date. A small amount of litter has been left, beware you will lose your membership, no second chances.
The popular Woodshaw Reservoir Junior Series has been producing some outstanding results with Ady Maguire showing his mastery of the fishery with wins on consecutive weeks, his latest on Monday was 13-7-0 followed by George Winstanley on 11-14-0.
Similarly the Howleston Cup junior match fished last Saturday on Ackers Pits saw our youngsters show the potential of this small fishery. Adam Harman with was an easy winner with nine carp for 37-10-0 whilst second placed Callum Brown had an all silver fish net for 7-6-0. A special mention and a well done to Joe Walters who framed in his first ever match with 5-12-0. Strangely only a few crucians showed up in the match despite the fact that there were plenty caught during practice sessions earlier in the week.
The very best of luck to our two Junior and Intermediate teams who are competing in the Angling Trust National Championships at Lindholme Lake Fisheries, Doncaster on Saturday.
