19th July 2011 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Rixton Claypits are producing some good mixed catches of tench, roach, and skimmers on both pole and running line. George Hatton reckons that he had a good thirty pounds in his session just fishing pole and maggot at 10 metres.
Grey Mist Mere is still producing quality tench to 9lbs and a number of upper double carp have been reported with the new stock packing on weight. Reports of catches of top quality roach with as many as forty or so in a session, and just when we thought the cormorants had decimated the stocks.
Leslie Hughes reports last weekend catching good sized tench, bream, plus lots of skimmers in the 12oz to 1.5lbs range. Sadly the horrendous weather closed in and cut short his session. Ian Callender also reports a good session spent under his brolly landing tench to 6-4-0, crucians, bream, and four carp with the best weighing in at 18-7-0. He alternated between homemade paste and mini-boilies tucking them in his method feeder mix.
We have been getting third hand reports of some decent barbel being caught from the bottom end of our stretch of the River Dane at Holmes Chapel; can anyone please come up with some evidence? For the record the recent downpours have improved sport with chub and grayling being caught on a variety of methods and baits.
The popular Woodshaw Series run by our local bailiff team was a close run affair this week with only 7ozs separating the first four youngsters. It should also be remembered that the results of all our junior mid-week matches are impressive considering that they only fish two and a half hours or so.
Litter is rearing its ugly head again at Sandiway Lakes where according to bailiffs these so called anglers have actually placed their rubbish into bags, then the ' hard work' done they find it too much of a burden to take it home. The volume and content is obviously from multiple overnight stays so the only remedy which unfortunately also affects our decent members is to close the fishery to night fishing. The choice is simply yours, clean up your act or the committee will. The situation is being monitored and rest assured anyone caught leaving litter of any description will lose automatically their licence.
Please keep sending me your catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for 2011 subscriptions, new memberships, and any queries.
