14th August - Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

The winner of the July Bait Tech Catch of the month competition is Paul Sheehy for his stunning leather carp from Rixton Clay pits which weighed in at 24lb-5oz the usual lively debate took place in the Monday committee meeting about the merits of the various entries and the leather took the prize by one vote so well done Paul.

The August prize is now up for grabs so get your entries in quickly and where are all the junior entries this month? You can't all be away on holidays and remember you have got to be in to win.

More good news for members, our very busy team at Wigan led by Trevor Grey and Barry Shepherd has found another pool in the Aspull area to add to our portfolio. It is called Johnson's Farm Pool and has not been in use as a fishery for quite some time. The sadly neglected pegs were unsafe and some very overgrown. They have now been removed by local volunteers and twelve new comfortable ones will be constructed shortly. It is another little gem which has good stocks of tench, roach, cruciens etc.

Forster's pools are fishing very well with lots of decent sized cruciens and tench showing to pellet or paste. Work is still ongoing there but all pools are fishable. Please park sensibly away from nearby resident's properties.

Trevor and Barry had a day off from their bailiffing and water improvement works and enjoyed some excellent sport at our Worthington Lakes complex. Fishing the middle lake on the pole at 11.5metres they had roach to around the 1lb mark and good bream to 7-8-0lb they are a bit perplexed as to why more members are not giving it a try when the fishing is so good?

The River Dane has suffered from low water conditions but the rain over the past weekend improved sport dramatically with reports of good numbers of grayling to 1-5-0 being caught. David Kan took a day off from Nandos Restaurant at Stockton Heath to net six grayling and a chub of 4-8-0. Don't forget just show your membership card at the restaurant for a 20% discount on meals.

The committee is disturbed by reports of members wading at Moore Quarry. This is not only a dangerous practice on this venue but also marginal plants which have taken years to establish are being damaged. There is now a limit on numbers of night fishing places available on the Quarry which the committee has set at a maximum of ten per night.

Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
